“A treasure house! One of the best House Museums of the World.”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Seward House was the home of one of the most important political, social and philanthropic
figures of the United States. Seward worked toward social justice by making better housing for blacks, helping escapees on the Underground Railroad (along with associate, Harriet Tubman), an confidant of Abraham Lincoln in who was also wounded in the murderous attack on Lincoln and who, later would purchase Alaska from Russia.
This is the one of the best Museum houses I have ever visited. In fact, the family left everything (including the regally set dining table) as if they had just left. The staff is still sorting though the collection.

Just one of many participants in the monthly First Friday, the Seward House Museum features an artist and music and a good crowd.

“A Historical Gem!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Auburn has a surprisingly large amount of national historic gems. The Seward House Museum, the home of Lincoln's secretary of state William Seward, is one of them. Meticulously upkept, it really is a "must stop" while in central NY. The museum is open year-round, and offers special holiday-specific tours at certain times of the year: haunted house tours and candlelight tours at the winter holidays.

“Great insight into Secretary Seward's life”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

The house tour is excellent and you gain a good sense of the man, his family and his importance in American history. My friends and I started with this tour at 11 am followed by lunch in downtown Auburn a few blocks away and a tour of the Harriet Tubman house after lunch which is also nearby. It was a very good day of touring but not overwhelming. Secretary Seward's house in Washington, DC, where President Lincoln often visited, was torn down a long time ago to build a federal courthouse, so it's good that this house in Auburn is still preserved. Nice bookstore/gift shop here too with reasonable prices. They gave us discount for senior and National Trust members.
