Situated in the Facilities Center Building on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, Cantina Sicilianita is hardly visible from the street. Even the signage is low key, making it difficult to locate from up close also (ex Max's Bookstore). However, once inside, although small (about six tables), the place exudes an atmosphere of warmth and coziness, perhaps like a largish dining room in sizable home.
As the name implies, the cantina offers Italian fare. The menu is relatively limited but does offer the usual range of antipasti, pasta, insalata and panini dishes. We ordered the Prosciutto e Formaggi Platter, Pasta Alla Norma, Smoked Salmon with Risotto, Pesto Siciliano and Penne Al'arrabiata which was followed by Cannoli Siciliani for dessert (the only item). The items were freshly prepared which meant a little wait for the meal to arrive. However, the wait was worth it and each item was impressive (definitely above average). The pasta dishes were one of the best we have ever tried- done to perfection, and the sauces delectable and delicate. There is a range of red and white wines available, and again the pricing is very reasonable.
It seems that the restaurant is a 'labor of love' of the owner Mark Buhain, who is usually there to keep an eye on the proceedings (and chit-chat with the patrons), which perhaps not only explains the consistency of the food, but also adds to the general cheer. In summary, one has to conclude that Cantina Sicilianita is worthy of repeated visits.
