“A good choice, except for when you want to share a room but not a bed”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

We took two rooms. My room was large and clean, with a microwave, dining table, plates and cutlery for those who want to eat in the room. However, it seems that the hotel does not have any rooms with twin beds. For those who want to share a room but don’t want to sleep in the same queen sized bed, one would have to sleep on a sofa bed. My sofa bed was uncomfortable as the mattress was very thin – I felt the spring coils underneath.

The bathroom was cleaner than I anticipated; there were some grout stains, but they weren’t too noticeable, considering that the tiles were white. However, there was a small cockroach in the bathroom, and there was also a cockroach in the other room that we booked.

Buffet breakfast was included in the price, and while some food items were just okay, the soups and broccoli-cauliflower gratin were good.

I booked a room for the first time just to try it out. Read good reviews and at the price (at asiatravel.com), it was very encouraging. We normally stay at The Manor or Baguio Country Club but since we were only in Baguio for a night, thought I'd give Azalea a chance.

We followed a narrow road along Leonard Wood and were pleasantly surprised by the huge and well-built building facade. Parking was convenient as it was the middle of the week during a lean season. The service was warm and efficient from checking in to room service and even the waiters at the coffee shop were quite attentive and very polite.

And then it was time time to sleep. Or so we thought because at about 1am we realized it was impossible to sleep soundly on a very hard bed. We then transferred to the pullout sofa bed, which was also bad decision. The sofa bed is either old or of poor quality because all of its springs were exposed and protruding -- we had to use throw pillows as pads to support our back.

The noise outside did not help. But I suppose this is more a function of not having air-conditioned rooms.

We probably had a total of 2 hours of sleep which is very dangerous as we were driving back to Manila the following morning.

The front office lady who assisted us in checking out welcomed our comment and accompanied us to the room so we could show her exactly what we mean. I hope Azalea management could once and for all replace all these uncomfortable beds/sofa beds to truly deserve its no.2 rating on tripadvisor. By continuously improving its service perhaps it can even aspire to be no.1.

The hotel is near Teachers' Camp, and so is just a jeepney ride away from most attractions--Wright Park, The Mansion, Mines View Park, St. Joseph Parish, Good Shepherd Convent, Burnham Park, etc.

We stayed in a studio facing the front of the hotel (Mountain View). You'll pay more than if you get other studio types (e.g., Garden View) but the view is all worth it.

Their buffet breakfast has good selection.

Booked 3 rooms, 2 standard rooms and 1 2-bedroom suite.
Nice place to stay but i wouldn't recommend the sofa bed as your added bed for your kids to stay or a 3rd person to stay. It is really super hard. The springs underneath is so uncomfortable.
What is good about this hotel is the service the hotel staff provide you with. They have been very nice and helpful. The outside view of the hotel sends a cozy feeling for incoming visitors.
Next time I decide to stay in this hotel again, I will rather choose the 2-bedroom suite over the standard rooms even though we are only 3 in the family. :)

Room Tip: one of the better choices.

We booked a 2-BR suite through the Manila office of Azalea residences. They were very accommodating despite several changes in our booking. The hotel is simply beautiful. The big and bright signs along Leonard Wood Road were very visible and as you drive up to the loop, you will be in awe at how grand the facade is. There is a well-kept playground to the right of the hotel entrance that is open until 9PM. Basement parking is spacious. The hotel is fairly new so it still looks clean. It is 5 minutes away by car from Wright Park/ The Mansion House/ Mines View/ St. Joseph's Church, and 5 minutes away by car from SM (in the opposite direction). If you don't have a car, you can just walk to the corner where jeeps pass. Security is good. There is always an attendant in the basement parking area and a security guard to watch the back of the hotel.

The rooms only have ceiling fans and no airconditioners but the cold air wafts in through the balcony and windows enough to cool the rooms. The bed in one of the rooms is good for one; the bed in the other room is good for two. The sofabed in the living room is also good for two. There are THREE TVs - one in each bedroom and one in the living room - and two DVDs in the suite. There were a total of nine pillows in the suite and we were told that any more would cost extra.

The kitchen is incredibly complete with an induction stove, a microwave, an electric kettle,a refrigerator, stainless steel pots, cooking utensils, cups and glasses, dinnerware and good-quality flatware. If you like to fry, bring your own non-stick pan because that they don't have. Also bring your own dishwashing liquid and sponge since there is an extra charge for those. No kitchen towels were available so we had to use one of the hand towels from the bathroom (and just crossed our fingers that it was never wiped in undesirable, uh, body parts). We also asked for extra bath towels and that wasn't a problem.

Bathroom amenities were nicely packaged with enticing scents like lavender, green tea and lily, rosehips and grapefruit. The hotel provides soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, and a hair dryer. As opposed to what was stated in the hotel brochure, there was no bathtub in the 2- or 3-bedroom suites.

Service was excellent and always with a smile, except for the front desk staff (as compared to housekeeping, the bell hops, etc.) that seemed stiff and contrived.

There were only two problems we had with the hotel:

1. The bathroom - When we checked in, a stench emanated from the drainage in one of the bathrooms. The smell did not dissipate after many sprays of hotel-issue deodorant so we had to buy candles to light in the bathrooms.
The glass sliding doors of the shower had streaks and didn't look like they were cleaned well. There were some black mildew stains in the corners of the bathroom, which were just gross. The white bathroom tiles were a complete mistake since all of this showed through.

2. The guests - The smaller bedroom has overhead windows that open out into the hall, where you can hear the noise of guests talking loudly or kids running around like wild animals. You will have this problem if you've had the misfortune of booking at the same time as families WHO DON'T BELIEVE IN COMMON COURTESY. We also had to deal with kids who were allowed by their adult companions to shout somewhere in the back of the hotel where the balconies are... at 11:00PM. If only the hotel can weed out THOSE PEOPLE, this would truly be heaven on earth.

I was in Baguio during the Panagbenga 2013 Festival together with some blogger friends.
We reached Azalea like already dawn but despite the cold dawn all staff in the hotel starting from the guard, to the front desk down to the bellboy was still alert and in them was a great warm smile.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and I really like it. The design the rooms and bathrooms are perfect. Azalea is good for a family and group of people because the suite rooms are really huge. It is also in the heart of Baguio City so easy access for touring around. You can even just walk to some tourist spots. Speaking about food, well superb like really "lami" (bisaya term for delicious).

My only concern is that the wifi is really slow, not good reception of the tv channels, and the sofa bed is dificult to set up so you need to ask for assistance and you need to live it open the whole duration of your stay for ease and can consume a lot of space in the living room.

But in totality I like Azalea because of the service, the ambiance of the place, the food and it's location.

Hotel is new with a very nice lobby & facade. It is also accessible to famous spots in Baguio. Hotel room is very cozy & you can find almost everything that you need. Since my family got a 2-bedroom suite with kitchen, hotel has provided for utensils when we requested. They were also not strict in providing for additional blankets & pillows. No additional charges for that.. It's good that they have very good facilities to cover for bad customer service during check-in. I have encountered a major incident during check-in. We came in late already but they cannot provide us our room. When asked why, they gave conflicting reasons. By the way, I booked via Agoda 2 months ago & even called them up in the morning of our arrival date just to confirm our booking. My brother's family also booked for a room & was immediately served. I sensed that there was a problem with our assigned room that's why I called the manager. She told us to wait but since I was already complaining, she advised us to temporarily stay in another room. However, I disagreed with that. I insisted to immediately give us our assigned room. Finally, after much of waiting, she gave us our room without even apologizing for the delays. When it comes to checking-out, it's much better & the staff were helpful.
