This enterprise was commenced by the Good Shepherd Sisters (Catholic nuns) as a way of helping young girls to rise above poverty by offering part time work and funding for further study.

It has been extremely successful.

I was there during a mid afternoon weekday in early January 2013. There was a steady stream of shoppers with the most popular item by far being the famous purple ube jam (which I do not like, but Filipinos seem to love).

A girl over the microphone kept saying 'maximum of two ube jam 12 ounce jars per person' but it was rather loosely enforced. Ours did however come to us still hot which indicated that it had been very recently packed into glass jars. They accepted my credit card (AMEX) for 10 items even though the sign said 'minimum 11 items for credit or debit cards'. They were well organised.

There is also a small snack bar and toilets as well as a great view over the Cordillera ranges.

Planning to buy purple yam and other sweet stuff? Ridegewood is one ride away from Good Shepherd. Good Shepherd is few minutes walk from Mines View Park and both can be reached with one jeepney ride from hotel main road.

Their ube jam is the best. Visit their arts and crafts store for other items like ifugao coffee. The queues are better managed now as the convent store has an efficient POS system. There is no limit to the number of jars of ube you want to buy. The ones sold in the market are fake so get the real ones from here. Traffic might be bad leading here and parking is very limited.

One of the best product that i always purchase at Good Shepherd is their Ube Jam, this is because its so creamy that it just melts in your mouth. You have to be patient in falling in line as they have lots of customers during the Weekends, going there during the weekdays is a good idea if you want to avoid long queue.

If you want to have authentic "pasalubong" coming from Baguio, Go in this convent. The nuns here are producing high quality ube jam, strawberry jam, peanut brittle and other pasalubong delicacies. It's just quite far from down town Baguio. It's near Mines View.
