El Brujo is a complex of 3 ruins, only one of which is really open and excavated. The much earlier Huaca Prieta is a preceramic mound which looks more like a hill until you are on it, but dates from the 3rd millenium BC! Huaca Cao Viejo is the best to visit with its Lady Cao burial, fabulous murals and very good site museum. It and Huaca Partida are both part of a Moche complex and date back to 200 BC. The complex is very worth a visit, maybe half an hour north of Trujillo. There were few people there when we visited early on Christmas Eve!

In addition to being interesting to see the life of that time, it is interesting to see the archeological work. Be sure to enter the last room of the museum which is closed with a curtain.

Wonderful museum and archaeological site excavation. Museum is dedicated to the items found at the El Brujo site and does excellent job of presenting area history and finds. Labels are in Spanish and English. Photos not allowed in museum. Drive to site is fascinating. The archaeological site is surrounded by sugar cane fields as far as you can see. Amazing agricultural development surrounding Trujillo. Temple site still being excavated but temple construction and decoration is well presented and preserved. "Dama del Cao"(@400AD) was an incredible find. Tomb was undisturbed and findings well presented in museum. Recent work indicates that the "Dama" may actually predates the "Senor de Sipan" found near Chiclayo. Very much worth the visit!

This Moche pyramid complex is not to be missed. The pyramid itself is not that exciting, but the adjacent museum, housing the mummy of La Dama de Cao is spectacular! The museum displays the objects found in her tomb, together with her mummy, and they are breathtaking.
