El Brujo is a complex of 3 ruins, only one of which is really open and excavated. The much earlier Huaca Prieta is a preceramic mound which looks more like a hill until you are on it, but dates from the 3rd millenium BC! Huaca Cao Viejo is the best to visit with its Lady Cao burial, fabulous murals and very good site museum. It and Huaca Partida are both part of a Moche complex and date back to 200 BC. The complex is very worth a visit, maybe half an hour north of Trujillo. There were few people there when we visited early on Christmas Eve!
