Set right on the main square of Trujillo, this hotel began its life many years ago as part of the government's tourist hotel chain. Today it is privately owned, and as of Dec. 2018 it is freshly refurbished thanks to a change in ownership that has not affected the quality of the service, the amenities, and the ambiance. Their breakfast is especially good with a great selection that includes local specialties such as the sweet tamal known as humita available on weekends--the kitchen knows what it is doing.

From the 17th to the 20th of May I stayed in this hotel right on the historic colonial center of Trujillo. With very friendly staff and a nice comfy big bed.

There is no Uber in Trujillo thus make arrangements for pick up and get the hotel to recommend a good driver/taxi service that doesn’t rip you off.

I stayed in room 329 on the 3rd floor (highest), the room is accessible via an elevator but stairs are faster. The view was on the inner courtyard and pool. The room was clean and looked somewhat small.

Internet was not working well in the room, and went on and off, however in the bathroom I had a super good WiFi connection.

There was no complementary water offered which I found a big minus for a claimed 4 Star Hotel and even praised 5 Star on Booking.com especially when 3 Star hotels offer a bottle every day.

The Bed: big and I slept very well. The pillow was a bit too soft for my taste but okay.

The Room: no chair but a sort of hooker under the the small desk, flatscreen and closed closet space. There was an AC which I use. It would switch off when the hotel card was taken out of the power plug.

The Bathroom: on the first day the soap was missing and the shower gel too, these were added after the second day when the cleaners came; further more shampoo and conditioner too. The shower had good pressure and and needed time to warm up. The bath tub was very small and I’m only 1.70/5’7” so you can imagine it was small if I couldn’t fit in.

The hotel offers a full breakfast, it had a coffee tea drinks section with cereals and yogurt selection in big flasks and some fruits.
There was a hot section with scrambled eggs and sausages and local cheese and a plate with cold cuts. There were local and American breads freshly backed.

For a 4 Star hotel I thought the breakfast could have been more elaborate.

The location is good and convenient right at the Plaza Armas with the grand cathedral next door and other sightseeing attractions, such as many other churches and the palace as well. Other shops are all within walking distance. A supermarket is near by called Metro.

I initially booked for four nights and extended by 5 more days. This has been one of my best hotel experiences in Peru. . Extraordinary and friendly staff all over, wonderful beds, impeccably clean, excellent breakfast choices. I had a fabulous suite overlooking the main square and enjoyed every second of my experience, both in the hotel and exploring the famous archeological sites all around. Stole my heart.
