I stayed in this hotel while on the Gate 1 tour and it was the best of the 4 hotels that I stayed in. The rooms are very comfortable and service was professional and friendly. The hotel is close to the main square as well as pedestrian shopping area. Breakfast was quite good with made to order omelettes.

The Royal Inn Hotel in Puno (near Lake Titicaca) is a first-class hotel located on a side street off of Puno's main square. Located about 14,000 feet above sea level, we were welcomed with coca tea to help us adjust to the altitude. The hotel has a small lobby, but a large dining room and very comfortable guest rooms (opened with an old-fashioned key on a paddle). Wi-fi is available in the lobby.

The street and sidewalk leading to the hotel is narrow and the curb is 8-10 inches high (it varies), so someone with difficulty getting up the curb would be better off crossing at the corner of the square, where the curb is lower. If you are on a tour, expect to have to walk a block or more to get to and from your bus, as most tour busses cannot navigate the street, especially when delivery vehicles are parked on it.

We had lunch in the hotel one day. Everything was good, but nothing was excellent. It also seemed to take a long time to be served, considering we were one of only three parties there at the time.

The hotel staff was very friendly and solicitous to those in our group suffering from the high altitude. They brought out an oxygen tank on request several times for guests who needed a lift.

Diagonally across the square from the hotel is the beginning of a pedestrian-only shopping district that runs several blocks long. It includes several banks, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw seem to look out over the backs of other buildings. Don't expect a good vi...

This is a lovely hotel about a block away from the central square and cathedral. It has four floors with rooms on inside areas where it is quiet and some with windows overlooking the streets. Our room was clean and well appointed with a refrigerator, hairdryer a small table and chairs. The window opens so you can get fresh air. The lobby area is a small area that sits in the middle of the room and is open for the four floors above.
The dining room serves a buffet breakfast that has a nice selection of fruit, eggs, breads, juices, cereal and coffee. There is a bar area also.
There is free Wi-Fi and computers on each floor. We have really enjoyed our stay and have found it convenient to the main tourist walking street. The hotel has oxygen on hand for those who have problems adjusting to the 12,500 feet altitude. Many people on our tour made use of this to help alleviate their headaches and general malaise.
Make sure you go to the Floating Islands when you get to Puno!

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the street for a quieter atmosphere.

We stayed here with Gate 1 and absolutely loved our room! We had a king bed as well as a double and the bathroom was huge. Everything was modern, clean and the decor was lovely with a large window, fridge and table and chairs. Free wifi and a lovely dining room with a delicious buffet breakfast. It was a 2 block walk to the main street and square with lots of great restaurants to choose from and shops to browze.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 405 and highly recommend asking for this room.

This hotel doesn't deserve its four stars. Although it is ideally located (one minute from the Plaza del Armas), and although rooms are very comfortable, the service must definitely be highly improved. The breakfast is besides average only.

We stayed here for two nights while on a Gate 1 Tour of Peru. Of the four hotels we stayed in while touring Peru this was the nicest hotel and room.

The room was spacious and very nice. The bathroom was modern and clean. The twin beds were over sized (perhaps full sized). The hotel lobby and dining room were very nice as well. The breakfast was fine compared to the others we encountered.

The location is 1/2 block from the main square and a quick walk to a pedestrian street with lots of dining options. When eating out ask for the set tourist menu. I had a fabulous meal for 18 sol (less then $8).

The altitude made it hard to sleep and while we enjhoyed our time in Puno we were all glad to get back to Lima and sea level.

One thing to keep in mind here. Your room door does not lock automatically. You have to use the key to lock it when you leave and even when you are in the room you have to use the key to lock the door.

There is laundry service two blocks up the hill which is way cheaper then using the hotels service.

This hotel is a great value choice.

Stayed for two nights after arriving on the train from Cusco. The hotel will not win any awards for its decor.Dark wood and a yellow/orange and green colour scheme that dated back to the 60/70s.Rooms were satisfactory but a bit on the cramped side, however were warm and comfortable. The advantage of this hotel is its location.30 secs walk to the main square and 5-10 walk to the main thoroughfare with its shops and restaurants.Breakfast was Ok BUT nothing special. As most people only stay in Puno for 1 or 2 nights a hotel of this standard is just about acceptable. For us it served its purpose BUT was no where near the standard of other hotels that we stayed in on our travel through Peru.
