“Solid Choice in otherwise forgettable city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2007

Stayed at the Casa Andina Private Collection Puno for two non-consecutive nights. Rooms were very nice and spacious with small unfurnished porches overlooking Lake Titicadca. Strangely, there was a nice little table in the room, but only one chair. A lot of the hotel's view is blocked by the larger Liberdator Hotel to the left, but to the right the view of Puno at night is very nice. Service at the front desk is excellent. Service in the restaurant was iffy - the staff seemed overtaxed tended to rush you along. Tour groups have discovered this hotel and if one rolls in, the restaurant can become full quickly - when we arrived one night for supper, we were asked if we had reservations - luckily, there was an extra table. Coffee does take an inordinately long time at breakfast, but hopefully this is just a growing pain for the relatively new hotel. Room decor almost exactly as you'll find at the Casa Andina PC in Cusco. Bathroom was large with lots of counterspace, hairdryer, and phone.

We stayed at the Casa Andina Private Collection, Puno with Llama Travel in Sept 07,and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were always very polite and obliging. The room was reasonably sized with two double beds and a well stocked bathroom. The restaurant food was very good, and the breakfast buffet plentiful.I would certainly recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Casa Andina PC in Puno. A really top notch place, everything was impeccable, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food was very good. The only shortcomings are really minor. For example, the water pressure and valves in the rest rooms near the restaurant are such that it is difficult to wash your hands without getting your shirt soaked. We'd definitely go back.

Arrived very late to be allocated room 101. It's noisy from people wandering down the corridors and across the garden from dinner but we were too late to move.

Dinner was fine but breakfast was very disappointing. We were leaving at 6.30am and breakfast apparently starts at 5.30am. At 5.45am we were the only people at breakfast and that pretty much included any staff. Getting tea and coffee took 15 minutes and the food laid out could have been from the day before - the rolls and bread were so stale they were inedible.

Perhaps our expectations were too high from the other reviews on here but I's say it's an OK hotel with a good view but nothing exceptional.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to hear that your stay at our hotel was below your expectations. We totally understand your discontent and truly apologize for it.

Indeed, the room you stayed in was extremely close to the lobby, which generated noise when people walked by. We have taken action in order to minimize this problem.

On the other hand, breakfast is served from 5:30am to 10am and the service and quality should not be compromised no matter how many guests we have. We have paid special attention on food temperature to ensure our standards are being followed.

Finally, we really appreciate you your comments and the opportunity it has given us to improve.

Kind regards,

Casa Andina Team

We stayed for two nights in August 2007. The hotel is a short taxi ride (6 or 7 sols) from the centre of Puno. We had a lakeside room with a fantastic view. Ask for one.
This is a small hotel (don't expect to be able to change large amounts of dollars as they don't stock a lot of cash) with very friendly and attentive staff. Internet access in the lobby was fast and excellent. Oxygen is available for those suffering from the effects of altitude. Just ask at reception and they will bring it up to your room.
The hotel restaurant was first class with beautifully presented meals. Other than that you would need to take a taxi into the city centre to eat. Tip: try to avoid sitting too near the doors overlooking the lake as there can be a bit of a draught. At night the temperature does drop rapidly and it is very cold.
The bedrooms were warm and comfortable. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and were sorry to leave.
Tip: When you do the trip to Taquille Island you will need to be wrapped up warm first thing in the morning, but make sure you are wearing layers as by the time you get to the island it will be pretty warm - short or long sleeve cotton T-shirt - and you will have a 30 to 40 minute climb to reach the town and the restaurants.

I spent two nights at the Casa Andina Private Collection, and it lived up to the hype. My room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a deck and a view of the lake. The bathroom was modern and there was plenty of hot water (not always the case, even in nice hotels in Peru). The restaurant was very good and the complimentary breakfast was the best I had during my trip...an enormous spread of really wonderful food. The service was attentive and I had no problems whatsoever. My one tiny complaint was that I had the hotel arrange a taxi to the airport and paid the fare at check-out, but when I arrived at the airport the driver said he hadn't been paid and I had to pay him directly. This had happened to me in Peru before, so I knew it was a scam, and I simply showed him my reciept and told him he could get his money from the hotel. It's not Casa Andina's fault, of course, but perhaps they should make a point of paying the taxi drivers in front of the customers, so there is no potential for confusion over whether the fare is prepaid or not. Otherwise, a great experience and a highly reccomended hotel!

  • Liked — Clean, comfortable and modern rooms and an excellent restaurant with great views.
  • Disliked — It was far from town, so you were kind of stuck on the hotel grounds.

I guess that all arriving in Puno after the 10h train ride from Cuzco are quite tired and looking forward to a decent shower, a nice dinner and a heated room. You will get all this at Casa Andina! Compared to European standards it is a 3 star hotel with some 4 star features, such as the room safe (ask for a key at the reception). Rooms are ok with electrical heating - ask for a room to the lake side to enjoy the views over the bay of Puno. The hotel is about 5-10 min outside of Puno and taxis are cheap. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. In all Casa Andina hotels internet is free - ask at the reception for vouchers. There was a wireless network in the public spaces and a broadband cable in the room. Returning the next day from a boat tour on Lake Titicaca we were dropped off directly at the hotel pier - a nice surprise that saves the taxi back from the harbor. Would definitely stay again at this hotel.
