Casona Plaza Hotel

We stayed at Casona Plaza for two nights as part of a tour. Puno is a very humid city and is situated at pretty high altitude, so it was very cold. Unfortunately, the cord of the heater in our room was too short to ever plug in. In addition, the vent in the bath could not be entirely closed, letting in both noises (like loud music) and cold air. The mattresses were not very comfortable, either.

The next day, we asked them to check the heater and it was never done. Or it was and they decided not to change it.

Casona Plaza has a great breakfast buffet, with many more options that I've seen anywhere else in Peru. Unfortunately, they are not use to having large groups, it seems, as they couldn't refill the various plates, or bring enough utensils, cups and plates. If you see a large group when you go down for breakfast, wait for them to leave. Besides, you will probably not be able to sit down. The next day was fine.

The hotel is located a few blocks from the main plaza, and a bike-tuk ride away from lake Titicaca. They will provide you with 5 minutes of free oxygen if you're feeling bad from the altitude.

Room Tip: In autumn and winter, make sure the heater in your room works.

We had a room on the 5th floor which was very large (had two double beds which were comfortable) but was also not very clean - the main reason was that the carpet looked about 10 years old and was frayed and dirty - the bathroom was also very dated and the toilet would not stop flushing
it was an ok hotel for two nights but needs updating
breakfast was nice - although get there early as very busy around 7am

Upon arrival this hotel looks nice and was in a really good location near the main street, but away from the noise.

Free coca tea in reception, wifi and very slow internet on computers.

Rooms were nice and we had 2 comfortable doubles in our room. The bathroom initially looked nice. However, after walking to one of the doubles, there were numerous hairs all over one of the double beds, the bath had numerous hairs in it, hair scattered all over the bathroom floor and we just got the impression that it hadn't been cleaned well. I didn't want to clean up the hair so left them on the floor / bed and they stayed there for the duration of our stay.
Whilst washing my hair, the water suddenly went ice cold and no matter what I did, it stayed unbearably cold = shampoo still in hair and had to wear hat all day. When I managed to properly wash my hair, the hairdryer stopped working after a few seconds, but worked again when I tried about 15 mins later. The shower considered to play up during our stay - warm water then suddenly cold and stayed cold.
The bathroom didnt have proper windows - it had slats that went out into a square open area where everyone elses bathrooms slats also opened onto - this resulted in you being able to hear everyone in their bathrooms from early in the morning, talking, singing in the shower and answering the call of nature - not private at all.
There was a heater in the room, but it took ages to make a difference.
Tv was good.

Breakfast - I'm afraid i cant really say anything good about this - they just couldn't cope with the number of people in the hotel. On a busy morning, there were no glasses for the juice and when they did bring some out, they brought two out. The bowls for the cereal were TINY and just pointless - i would have had to eat at least 4 bowlfuls to have an adult sized portion.
The following morning was a lot quieter but I was still totally unimpressed by the breakfast - juice glasses this morning at least. The fresh fruit looked unappetising, tiny cereal bowls (as said before), cake, a few bits of cheese and lots of bread. Nothing else. For a 4 star hotel, I expected more than what you would get in a youth hostel.

The lift in the hotel is 'aggressive' and twice I nearly got shut in the door as it shuts quickly and didnt seem to have any safety mechanism like we have - prepare to move quickly.

Also, we all handed our keys in to the reception desk when we went out, but when we came back, all the keys were just lined up on the reception desk for people to grab so anyone could have taken our key.

One morning someone walked straight into the bedroom without knocking - it was a member of staff but no apology was made and I'm not sure why they walked in.

Overall, comfy beds and a nice sleep had, but let down by lack of hot water and the poor breakfast.

Go adventures booked us for 2 nights. Very easy place to stay. Like Paris. Road noise
Beds really comfy so slept well. Toilet only blocked once but fixed quickly.

Make sure you don't get room 205. Near the stairs and lift and on main road so noisy in an out at times.

This was a wonderful hotel in a great location. The staff was friendly and courteous and the hotel was clean and welcoming. We stayed here before and after going to Amantani Island so had two different rooms, both of which were quiet pleasant. the hotel graciously stored our baggage so we only had to take what was necessary with us on our Lake Titicaca excursion.

The wifi in our rooms didn't always work the best but the hotel offers two computers in the lobby for the guests to use.

I guess my hotel review is slightly flavoured by the fantastic time we had in Puno.

Rather than depart with our tour group to the floating islands, after our first night here we decided to stay here an extra couple of nights then rejoin the tour. We thought the place was clean, and the staff were helpful, bearing in mind we're not 'demanding' customers.

We also lucked out because on one of the extra nights, the once a year festival for Uni student faculties (televised live!) circled the plaza for 9 hours, yep 9 hours. Some wonderful photos, like a mini-carnivale. That occured on 27 October. We really enjoyed our few days at this hotel.

We stayed here for one night only as part of our trip to Lake Titicaca. The room was large, clean and comfortable with adequate facilities including Wifi and TV. The breakfast was slightly disappointing having had good experiences elsewhere throughout our 3 week tour of Peru. The staff did not replenish the buffet breakfast quickly enough and we had to wait while supplies were brought. The location is very good with easy access to downtown and all the tourist sights.

Room Tip: Request a matrimonial room - larger double bed!!
