This hotel is ok..... It's in a good location in Puno, not far to walk to some good restaurants.
We found it to be clean and pleasant, but it is looking quite tired now, but great if you love that retro vibe!
Showers take time to get hot, but it's Puno, so not sure anywhere else would have been better.
In general it gets cold at night. Be prepared!

I spent four weeks in Puno on a Fulbright in January; this is about 25 days longer than most visitors stay. The university arranged my lodging and had me stay in the Hotel Italia. I found the hotel to be very comfortable and conveniently located in the city center. The owners are a delightful family--a mother, two daughters and two grandkids who spoke excellent English, so communication wasn't a problem despite my poor Spanish. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful as well. Breakfast wasn't extensive but was substantial--coffee/tea/juice, cheese, ham, fresh fruit, rolls and bread, and eggs (if you ask). You can also get dinner in the hotel restaurant, and hot water for tea is available in the lobby. A couple of caveats that others have mentioned: my room faced the street and could be noisy (car horns, musicians and fireworks) until late evening; the wooden floors can be slippery (especially as I liked to pad around my room in socks); and even though I was there in summer the city occasionally had hail and even reported snow flurries (most mornings were in the 30s or single digits Celsius), but I slept in a sweat suit and the bed covers were thick and warm. The portable space heater took the chill off in the morning (be prepared to wait for the hot water to finally reach the shower). I can't compare it to other hotels in Puno but would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here while on a tour of Lake Titicaca. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Located near the lake. Breakfast only small selection but nice. Coca and green teas available 24/7. No lifts but staff will take cases to upper floors.

Stayed for 2 nights. Both times the room faced the street, with the bathroom window facing the interior. Opening both meant that there was a nice cross-breeze during the day. At night, there was a small heater provided in the room. No problems with the bathroom or hot water. Breakfast was good -- you can ask the staff for a freshly fried egg if you desire.

The location is quite good, being only a few minutes walk away from a major supermarket as well as a the local market. And only a few more minutes from Plaza de Armas and Calle de Lima.

I would stay here again.

I would never stay here again. I went on a tour that stayed at this hotel, and my two night stay was not fun. The best parts about this hotel are the free wifi, free tea, and hot showers. Conversely, I wore a hat and mittens to bed. Other people in my group seemed to have gotten heaters in their rooms, but I didn't - if you stay here, make sure you get one!

I have stayed at the Hotel Italia for over twenty years now, that is to say every time I go to Puno. I have also been taking Tour groups there for many years. The hotel is very centrally located, just round the corner from the market and the pedestrian zones. The owners are very friendly and go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. The staff is very helpful and obliging. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is always piping hot water in the showers (a rarity in Puno!). The restaurant is very clean and phantastic value for money. Vegetarians and vegans are given very special attention there. You only need to ask.

Stayed here for two nights, the hotel is in old building but it seems more retro than dated. It can be quite cold but the heaters in the room worked brilliantly. Yes there is some noise from the playground nearby but that only on for so long. Breakfast was included but pretty limited and there is wifi with different codes depending on your floor.

The main thing to watch for out is the stairs - they are super slippy and a few of us nearly went flying on a couple of occassions! The room flooring is also pretty slippy so watch out on the rug and just keep an eye on the plug sockets as the one in room made some strange noises when we plugged in to it.

Good location to go out for a wander to explore the center of Puno.
