Skip Taquile, see the Uros instead.
Taquile is an island with a small community living there. The views are nice - you can see the snow-capped mountains of Bolivia on a clear day - but not worth the long trip from Puno in my opinion. The people still wear their traditional dress which is lovely to see. There's a sign, though, when you first get to the island saying you shouldn't take pictures of kids without permission, and the adults asked for money to have their photo taken. Understandable - I'd be sick of tourists taking my picture all day too. They sell a lot of handmade clothing like hats, gloves, bags, etc. for an outrageous price. You can get the same in Cusco - handmade - for half as much.
