“Boring, unspectacular”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Skip Taquile, see the Uros instead.
Taquile is an island with a small community living there. The views are nice - you can see the snow-capped mountains of Bolivia on a clear day - but not worth the long trip from Puno in my opinion. The people still wear their traditional dress which is lovely to see. There's a sign, though, when you first get to the island saying you shouldn't take pictures of kids without permission, and the adults asked for money to have their photo taken. Understandable - I'd be sick of tourists taking my picture all day too. They sell a lot of handmade clothing like hats, gloves, bags, etc. for an outrageous price. You can get the same in Cusco - handmade - for half as much.

We visited the island on a tour, the hike up the hill is a bit challenging, but the view is worth it :)

“long journey”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We travelled to Taquile Island on a motor boat after first visiting the floating Uros Islands the journey took around two hours each way and unfortunately we had nothing very interesting to view along the way. The motor boat we were on was quite basic and not particularly comfortable but the guide was excellent and provide a lot of intersting facts about the island it's inhabitants and their customs. When we reached Taquile we had quite a long walk to the main square, however the views from the island were lovely and the island itself was quiet. We had a very good meal near the square with delicious trout, although the toilet facilities at the restaurant were poor. It was quite interesting to visit the craft centre where the men were knitting with five needles, there was a varied selection of knitwear for sale. However we felt we would have preferred to have longer at the floating islands instead of continuing on this long journey to Taquile.

Interesting anthropology and way of life, friendly indigenous people. Surprising that they have not changed much by modern technology

“Classic Uro - Taquile.... Boring”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We did the Classic Uro - Taquile with All Ways Travel and to be honest, it ended up begin a very boring day!

It started off decent with a visit to Uros Islands were we learned a bit about the history of how the islands were created and the people. But then we paid 10 PEN to basically do a very slow lap around the islands in the locals oar boat.

The worst of it though was a slow 2.5 hour boat trip to the next island. We get off, go for lunch on the island, hang around for a half hour then walk to the other side of the island (which was to be fair a very nice walk) to get back on the boat for a 2.5 hour return trip.

Would give it a skip....,
