“Amazing Location”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

We picked this hotel for the location - lake's edge, and high up. Indeed it had an incredible view of the lake, which was glorious to wake up to as the windows are huge enough to see out of while still lying in bed. East facing so room gets flooded with morning sun - if you're not already gone due to being on an early lake tour.

Big modern hotel with beautiful amenities and grounds, but it felt like we were part of the big "tourist machine" with all the busloads coming and going and the foyer being full of suitcases and people waiting for their buses. At such times, there's no point waiting for the elevators - just use the Escher-style stairs and enjoy the journey down.

The bed was comfortable, bathroom worked well enough not to recall any issues. Maybe we could have done with a little more space for our bags.

Don't miss walking out the door by the bar, turning right, and following the lighted pathway up to the top of the rocky outcrop ... for the most gorgeous view of the lake, from Puno over to the right, all the way to the floating islands of the Uros people across to the left. A lot of landscaping work has gone into this feature, so get your coat and head up to enjoy a little solitude and reflection at sunset ... maybe with a drink in hand (if they let you take them outside).

We took the Andean Explorer train down from Cusco to get here, a wonderful day trip full of surprises - not just your average train ride, that's for sure. Owned by the Orient Express, so your money is well spent on this journey. Then we took the "tourist bus" back to Cusco, which stopped at some sights, and good mountain shopping ... and was enjoyable enough - for a long bus ride.

Room Tip: Get lake-facing.

Stayed here two nights after catching the train from cusco. Was very happy with the views overlooking the lake and the room was lovely. A great big bed and the toilet was separate to the rest of the bathroom which was nice. Comforts of robes and slippers and nice chocolates for turn down service. Breakfast had a great variety and was fresh. Reception were more than happy to order us a taxi to go into town and it was out the front by the time we caught the lift down from our room.

We had the dubious pleasure of staying here on new years eve 2013.
The hotel itself is nice, and during the rest of the year if properly staffed, may well be perfectly nice.
However for the amount we paid for the night, the service was poor (waiting 35 minutes for drinks before going to the bar to fetch them myself)
Hotel rooms were nice enough, looking over the lake. Bed was big and comfy.
There doesn't appear to be many other choices in the area for anyone using the Andean explorer train from Puno to Cusco, but if you choose to stay here don't expect too much

Top location, beautiful breakfast location, but the rooms felt cramped. I was told mine was a mid-range room (I seriously doubt it), but despite having two comfortable, nice beds, there was almost no room for one suitcase per person (two in total) plus our carry-ons (mostly backpacks).

Prices at the bar and restaurant are on the high end, but breakfast was complimentary, and the juices were unadultered.

There is a business center at the lower level, and coca tea was available at all times at the hotel lobby. There was a quirky pool table at the bar which made everybody look drunk (we think it was lopsided, but that made it more fun/challenging).

As group travel coordinators, we were almost overcharged despite having everything in triple and quadruplicate, so as elsewhere in Perú, check that prices are converted accurately, specially if quoted in another currency, and beware of attempts to charge more or provide a worse rate for credit card use.

However, most of the staff was quite nice, and I will consider giving them another chance, hoping for some improvements.

* There was no pool, hot pool, or a weight room, at the time of our visit. We were told some remodeling was going on. Perhaps many of these issues will have been resolved if you decide to stay.

Views are good but not as spectacular as you might expect. There is a hot tub (not really working when we were there) - I think the pool has gone. They have oxygen on tap for those suffering with altitude.

The real problem is that everyone leaves at the same time in the morning to do the Lake Titicaca trip and the hotel can't really cope. Queues for breakfast aren't really acceptable in a first class hotel.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good hotel. It just isn't exceptional. There isn't really an option if you want a good hotel; that is part of the problem.

The main reason to stay at this hotel is the location. Situated on a private island the views of Lake Titicaca are stellar. Waking up to lake views and having breakfast overlooking the lake makes it all worthwhile.

But first to the room. As requested we got a lake view room but as noted by other reviewers the room and bathroom can be described as compact. But it was clean and the bed was comfy. However we mourned the lack of tea /coffee making facilities in the room or on the room service menu for a chain hotel of this category which unashamedly caters for the European tourist. It seems you have the choice of coca tea in the foyer (not good for insomnia) or tea in the restaurant for S10 each. The room was also lacking in Peruvian touches (soft furnishings) and the bathroom had English toiletries. Thankfully we knew we were in Peru by just looking out at the lake.

We opted to dine in at the Uros Restaurant for the three nights we were there. It just seemed easier after a day out exploring but we paid a premium for it. Expect to pay for an entree or starter what you would pay for a main elsewhere. Main courses are about 50% more and desserts were double. But the generous basket of breads and grissini sticks with dips are complimentary. Also on the upside the service is good and there is good flatware, tablecloths and real cloth napkins. The food we had was excellent and the lomo saltado was a standout. The thyme crème brulee with spun sugar cage and elderberry ice cream was also memorable. But if you are part of a couple travelling independently enjoying a quiet meal at a table for two be prepared for the onslaught at around 7.00 p.m. The tour groups, middle aged Americans and Europeans arrive to swamp the dining room. Noise levels ramp up and tables are reconfigured near you to accommodate them. Look forward to this at breakfast as well.

Breakfast is ordinary and three of these was enough. But the juices are fresh and not watered down. There is a limited choice of hot items and there is the opportunity to eat vegetables, which is missing from the evening menu.

There is a separate computer room at the lower level for catching up on emails. Biscuits were available sporadically down there but don't count on a hot cup of tea, it always seemed to be lukewarm when we tried it. The whole bar/lounge area with open fire was pretty empty for the time we were there which made it a bit soul less.

Taxis also cost a bit more due to the distance from Puno but really its all about the lake view.

.

Room Tip: We all come to visit the lake so get a room facing the lake. We got Room 412 on the top floor which...

This hotel is very pretty- you either face Puno or Lake Titicaca- we faced the lake and it was stunning to see the sunrise and sunset. The restaurant faces the lake as well, and breakfast was wonderful, with the stunning views. The hotel has its own dock and good for tours of the floating islands.
Rooms are very basic and not large, but you are paying for the view. Also, common areas are nice and there are llamas grazing on the property.
The restaurant has very good food- I had a lasagna that was outstanding. I suggest eating light because of the high altitude. The hotel is very good about providing oxygen and will send it right away to the room if you are feeling the effects of the altitude.
You are close to Puno- can go over to the town to go shopping but I would much rather stay here - quieter and much nicer.

Room Tip: Best is the side with a view of Lake Titicaca.....not the side facing Puno. The sunrise is too beau...
