“Comfortable Stay, Friendly Staff”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

Stayed 3 nights.
Several emails in English and Spanish were sent regarding pickup and tours prior to our arrival. Note that the owner, Delia, speaks little English, but she gets help to read and send her emails when they are in English.
Delia picked us up from the bus station. Note that all cab rides in the city should be no more than 3 soles and the foot powered triciclos are 1-2 soles.

We asked for a quiet room which it was until 8am next morning as the construction work began on the level above us. This typically shouldn't be a problem if you have 7am tours.
Beds were comfy. Clean room. Cable TV. Good storage (table, closet).
The space heater warmed up the room after a couple hours. We were nice and toasty in the morning.
The bathroom was really cold since the window faced outside of the bldg so we just put the space heater in there before showering.
The water in the shower took 5 minutes before it warmed up enough to shower, but then it was fine. Had I known that the tub was big enough for a bath, I would've brought my bubble bath. Then again it was too cold.

I was sick during this trip so constantly refilled my water bottle with the hot water along with tea that they had available in the lobby.
Breakfast consisted of breads, jams, butter, crackers, eggs to order, milk, and my favorite was fresh fruit and fruit juice.

Tours- Delia organized our 1 day tour to Uros and Taquile. She also got a great private tour guide for us to visit Sillustani and Atuncolla along with a private cab ride to the airport. We shopped around a little bit and found the prices that she quoted for us to be competitive.

Just note that this hotel is ~1km from Plaza de Armas which took us 15 -20 minutes to walk to. I don't mind walking except the air pollution from the cars can be unbearable at times. I took a cab at times.

Breakfast is very good( for Peruvian standards you might even call it continental;) )
Everything is nice and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful, as long as you can speak a little spanish! Our room was much nicer than in the pictures and the wifi is good too. The hotel is just a 10 minute walk from the main plaza and with a taxi you pay to the bus station and around in town around 4soles.

The hotel is newly refurbished/redecorated. It is much more attractive than the professional photos. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The marble and tile bathrooms look brand new. I had some water pressure problems, but they have probably been worked out by now. (This seems to be an inherent problem in many Peruvian hotels)

The family staff are extremely cordial and ehlpful. They made several cost suggestions during my visit. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas. Tour busses to local sites will pick you up at the hotel.

Room Tip: Check the water pressure for the shower and toilet before moving in the room.

The hotel contacted us in advance, asked if we needed transport to the hotel, it is 10 minutes walking distance from the bus station, so we chose to walk; nevertheless senora Delia guaranteed she'd meet us and she did. She was waiting for us inside the bus terminal when we arrived.

Puno is not the most developed city in Peru, so from the outside the hotel doesn't really stand out significantly, but once you enter you see that hotel has recently beed renovated, is well maintained, clean, cosy and somewhat classy in compare to what you expect having walked through that city.

We booked a double room, it turned out to be a room with big bed (normally double beds in South America are pretty small, but not this one) and big French window facing the street; the room was equipped with new furniture; the bed linnen was in an immaculate condition, there was a heater and all the necessary appliances. The bathroom was not heated, but very clean, spacious and looked new. Showers could have been a bit warmer (given the cold season).

The hotel gives the impression that it is a family-run business; the staff was extremely friendly; doing their best trying to attend to all our needs. They booked a tour to floating islands and Taquile for us at a very reasonable price, saving us a lot of trouble. They even volunteered to make a run to a hardware store when we needed a small screwdriver in attempt to mend our broken camera, because they said it wasn't safe for us to go on our own after dark. They also bought our tickets to La Paz. They didn't overcharge us, the cost was comparable to that of a tourist company.

Breakfast should be mentioned separately, as normally you would expect just tea, bread and jam in that part of the world for breakfast. At Cordelius they served cheese, sausage and cooked eggs to our taste. There was even a choice of freshly squeezed juices.

On the day of departure Senora Delia took us to the bus station, paid the taxi and terminal fee for us and refused to take a tip. We've traveled the world, and it was by far the warmest, almost family-like reception we've ever received. And it wasn't forced in any way; it didn't feel like they were doing it just for a tip or nice review; it seemed very genuine and natural.

The hotel is not located in the very center, but Puno is a small place and 2-3 soles will buy a taxi ride anywhere in the city. Or you can stroll comfortably for around 15 minutes to/from Plaza de Armas. And you receive real value for money there, as everything in the city is slightly overpriced because of tourists.

We had a great experience staying at Cordelius Turistico, also felt very safe there and would totally recommend it for everyone.
