“Stay somewhere else”

We booked this place for 2 nights through email. 1 night before our trip to the islands and one night after. After arriving they told us that they only had for one night with ensuite bathroom. The second night we had to share which we didn't want and didn't booked. The neighbourhood was very far from the centre and very dark to walk at night. We had a double room with an extra bed which make the room very small. The reception didn't know anything about the islands. We had windows all around the room and also 1wall off the bathroom was made off glass. I guess its get really cold here in winter. The showers was nice and warm. You can get much better for a cheaper rate!

Stayed for 2 nights either side of a trip to lake titicaca and we were very disappointed. Location is not ideal being quite a few blocks up a steep hill from the main street in puno. It's a breathless walk carrying backpacks, dark at night and when it rains there is a mini river cascading down the pavement and street. The rooms themselves were fine, good size with bathrooms and hot showers. However when we stayed the whole place was very cold even after renting a heater at extra cost. Speaking to other travelers seems this is not unique to walk on inn, lots of puno hostels have this issue. Wifi worked ok but only on the ground floor not in the rooms.
Our stay was ruined on check out. We had an early bus to the airport so we asked to settle our bill the evening before however the lady at reception said it would be fine in the morning. However in the morning she first could not get our bill right (charging for only 1 night instead of the 2 we stayed) and then she had no change and could not get any until someone came on duty after our bus left with keys to the cash. It the end we left out of pocket - whilst only 5 soles ($2) we should still not have been out of pocket when we made every attempt to settle our bill in time.
Would not recommend staying here - there are plenty of reasonable price hostels around the main street in puno that are more convenient. If you are using the Rough Guide note that the location shown in the latest edition is for the previous location of the walk on inn, the current location is far less central than that shown in the Rough Guide.

The staff at Walkon Inn Puno was very, very helpful. Free tea is available throughout the day and the common lounge area is comfortable. Breakfast is not included but can be purchased for 8 soles per person. It is a simple buffet with bread, jam, yogurt, and eggs. The building is old and could use some renovation. The same goes with the rooms. We had a matrimonial room that was quite small but the bed was comfortable. What the hostel lacks in comforts, the staff makes up for in friendliness. Good location only a few blocks from the main plaza.

We had organized a bus terminal pick-up which was wonderful after a long bus ride from Cusco. I don't think this costs extra - we just paid the cab fare. The room was spacious with a shared private bathroom but no one else was using it so we had it to ourselves. It was a little cold at night and I saw a sign at reception that said the heater in your room could be turned on for extra money (we didn't do it). This hostel was booked for us by the Walk On Inn in Cusco so it was very easy. There are unlimited teas available with hot water to help you with the altitude (coca tea) or regular herbal teas. They did a load of laundry which was done in less than one day. We were able to book our bus to Arequipe through them as well. Breakfast was not included but we took advantage as it was eggs, cereals, yoghurt, and fruit. The location is great...maybe 5min walk up from the main plaza. Internet was also included which was great. All in all we had a great stay here would recommend them to our fellow travellers!

we was welcomed with a cup of mate de coca, the staff was very friendly check in was fast and efficient, I was with my wife on the 5th floor but the altitude was not a problem for us, we are not very young but was great! we choose the top because the view of theLake Titicaca is wonderful! we slept with the curtains open was impossible not to see the lake, is a very clean place accommodation was very good, breakfast for less than 3 dollars you can eat all the buffet and even repeat, the staff was very kind to us we got the tours and tickets to Bolivia did not require go down to an agency because they took care of everything, I had a problem to get the border about my visa :S they helped me I am very grateful to them. all available to us this was not necessary to go down to buy water or beer on the hostel sells everything at the same price as a local shop after the tour we saw movies all night until the next day. in Puno is very cheap places to go eat so we do not need to ask the kitchen as it is understood that it is only to prepare the delicious breakfast!if we are on vacation who need to cook! if people cook the hostel is going to smell bad is a good decision. i think that there are others cheaper places that allow guests to cook. my wife and I were as at home we stayed 5 days in the hostel 3 at the beginning and 2 returning from Bolivia, we have recommended to our friends
Puno is a very quiet and peaceful town we felt very safe during our stay.

We arrived at 8pm to the Walk on Inn, we had booked a double room and were told on arrival that there were no double rooms, clearly they had taken the booking and either filled our room or decided as we were arriving at night we were unlikely to go elsewhere.

The hostel is located right at the top of a very steep hill (in an area which we now know is unsafe at night) which is not great at altitude but to top it off our room was on the 4th floor. The beds were rock hard, we´ve stayed in much more budget places than this and these were the worst beds we´d had. The curtains didn´t fit the windows so we were woken as soon as the sun came up. The reception staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, we asked if we could use their kitchen and were given a sharp no, when we asked if there was a bar nearby we could grab some beers we were met with a shrug of the shoulders and a down the hill somewhere the maps they give out of Puno are basically the street the hostel is on and the main shopping street. Luckily we had only booked one night (we were intending on staying 3) so we found a much better hostel in the morning

I came to Puno from La Paz, where a few travellers told me to stay here in Puno. So I did and it was the best advice I got in 6 months of travelling. Happy people at the reception, everything shipshape, great advice on tours. Nowhere I felt so much at home like here.
btw: when they asked me to write my findings on this page (something I normally don't do), they asked me to write my opinion, they did not even ask to write something good for them...

Room Tip: the rooms on the upper floors are even more quiet, but it's "hard work" climbing the s...
