This place is unlike anything you will see. We visited in the early morning when the light over the lake and islands was great. I've never see communities of people living on tiny islands of reeds. We stopped on one and got a great demo of how they make the islands, plus we went into their minute homes and got to try on their colorful loathing. It was an absolute treat to experience this unique community.

Really interesting to see firsthand & walk on the squishy reeds that they live on, build houses & boats with, and even eat. Of course, it is a bit surreal that they invite people to see how they live in a traditional rustic way, yet are sophisticated enough to know they should offer items for sale, a ride on the reed boat, and have a little girl singing row, row, row your boat in several languages for tips. If you can get past the invasion of culture, it is fascinating.

Wow! Our tour guide brought here to this amazing place. The people welcomed us and greeted us by singing for us and demonstrating their way of life. They even dressed me and my husband with their traditional clothing. I took a ride in one of the boats they make with the totora grass that grows in the lake. We had a really good time and I totally enjoyed the experience.

This is a unique experience and a lot of fun. The Uros floating islands are easily accessible from Puno. It is fascinating to see the ingenuity and the crazy designs come into focus as you approach. The islands are really bouncy when you finally step out on one. You sit in a semi-circle while the whole process of building houses, islands, boats, everything out of reeds is explained. With the aid of some cute little models. The women are quite happy to have their photos taken, they have huge pom poms on their hair. At the end of your brief stay you can have a short ride on a reed boat at take over rowing for a while. They are difficult to steer.

Imagine living on an island of straw on the sea, its the strangest sensation! The locals were delightful even though much is set up for the tourist! But worth a visit because of its uniqueness!
