We stayed here as a group of 22 during a 2 week journey around sacred valley and lake Titikaka. The staff were very friendly and very very helpful. Especially Gladys, Damien, Yoe and Nancy, and of course Jorge Luis Delgado who made all our arrangements and took us on amazing guided journeys through the landscape, awakening the history of this beautiful land and sea! There is a great shop within the Hotel run by Doris where you can buy all sorts of beautiful and traditional gifts, textiles and tools used in traditional healing.

The hotel itself is located outside of the main part of Puno, on the main road running into town. It is very accessible and a great point for travelling to other sites in the area and is an oasis of calm which is great when you are busy exploring ancient and sacred sites all day, or shopping in the markets. We had some of our evening meals in the hotel and the food and service were excellent. Breakfasts are delicious too.

The hotel chain is linked to Kontiki Tours who can provide the most amazing accompanied journeys for groups of different sizes, exploring the local historic and ancient sites and in some cases taking part in traditional ceremonies.

There is a fabulous indoor swimming pool, which sadly we didn't get time to use this time. And also beautiful gardens which include a maze and some giant crystals that are focal points

Looking forward to returning with another group of people in a few months.

Very much recommended as are all the Taypikala hotels.

See you all soon,

Many thanks and much love

Joe

After a tiring bus journey from Chivay we were looking ahead to our well-deserved rest in Taypikala. However we had to face some further challenges upon arrival. Climbing 4 stories two times plus 3 stories is not exactly the type of activity you are looking for above 4100 m of sea level…

We got a room on the 4th floor. Having climbed we realized that we were given a twin room instead of a double (clearly marked in our Booking.com reservation). Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience the lady at the front desk (namely Gladys) tried to convince me that double means two separate beds. After a few minutes' discussion we were given a double. Again, on the 4th floor so I climbed again. To our surprise the room was already occupied by an other couple who were even more surprised when we entered. Ok. Go to the reception again. No longer surprised by lack of apology we listened to some lame excuses (?) from Gladys who tried to convince us again that double room means two separate beds and it is our fault as we should have indicated “matrimonial” (no such option available on booking.com). Furthermore pointed out that we booked the room on a discount price so we should be ok with the room we were given. It’s ridiculous and this is not the attitude one expects at a hotel reception. After another 15 minutes’ negotiation it was clear to Gladys that we insist on a substantive solution to our problem so she grudgingly began to search for it. Finally we were offered a suite (3rd floor :D) on the same price, however Gladys tried to apply an additional condition and force us to pay in cash what we rejected.
Indoor pool is a joke. Totally inadequate for swimming. If you have such plans you will be disappointed…

Our negative experiences ended here so let's continue with more pleasant impressions.
View of Lake Titicaca with the well maintained garden is unbeatable. There aren’t too many hotels having this advantage in Puno.
Best breakfast by far we had in Peru. Wide selection of tasty and quality ingredients: fresh fruits, cereals, cheese, olives, ham, sausage, eggs prepared in different ways, cookies and fresh juices. Hearty dinner was also very good. Kitchen staff was extremely helpful and nice. They provided even a packed breakfast to us as we had to leave early in the morning. Special thanks to Nancy! Her nice personality added a lot to our stay.
Shop on site is great. We bought wonderful silver jewelries on reasonable prices – after a short negotiation…
Despite of our first impression at the front desk we had a very nice stay at Taypikala Lago.
We were fully compensated by the whole atmosphere, delicious food and the service above expectations provided by other staff members.
We would definitely choose this place again at Lake Titicaca.

Staff went above and beyond. Always there either to anticipate our needs or see that they were met.

Food was excellent, very nice breakfast. Internet was spotty but I didn't go there to be on my computer.

Our Stay at the Taypikala Hotels just helped put our journey to Peru over the top. The hotels in Chicuito, Cusco, And Aguas Calientes were exquisite. They were clean, the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The hotel staff was well trained and made our stay comfortable. We felt like family.

Great location, 10 miles outside of Puno, most rooms have a great view of Lake Titicaca, top floor rooms (no elevator) have high ceilings. Nice beds and furniture, good breakfast. The best of the 3 Taypikala hotels we stayed at. They also have oxygen for those who need/want it, BTW.

Only negative is the fact that there is no elevator and climbing up the stairs when you're at that altitude (close to 4000 meters) is rough :-)

Let me start off by saying the view from this hotel is amazing. I am pretty sure any room you are in looks directly at Lake Titicaca and this is stunning at all times during the day. The grounds of the hotel offer a lot of places to sit and relax. Compared with other options in Puno, it is in a very idyllic location. Additionally, the food in the restaurant is of a high-standard very tasty and reasonably priced. The people who work in the restaurant are also very lovely. These two attributes are the reason the hotel receives an average rating for me. As far as the other service goes, I would rate it poor.

Here are the reasons why:

But #1
We stayed here on a Groupon, a reservation that I made months in advance. On arrival and presentation of my Groupon, the receptionist commented "I don't think foreigners can use Groupon here." Whilst I am an extranjera (foreigner) I am a resident of Peru and entitled to use Groupon. This response immediately made me feel unwelcome. The receptionist was corrected by the reservations manager and we checked in, but not without some huffing and puffing on her part and not a smile in sight. Let me add a few more things here: many people in their reviews have mentioned that they were offered free oxygen, tea, help with organizing day trips and the service was excellent. We were offered NONE of these things and the only reason I can think it was because we were staying there on a Groupon. I speak good Spanish and had no problem understanding what was said to me: no offer was made of any of the above in fact, we weren't even given the wifi code until we asked for it. I have to be honest and write, if you don't want people staying at your hotel on a Groupon, don't advertise on Groupon.

But #2
I wrote an email to the hotel in the morning asking if they could arrange for a taxi to pick us up from the bus station - there was no taxi there - again, I wonder if they didn't want us staying there on our Groupon.

But #3
I agree with the comments on here about the water being REALLY overpriced - 15 soles for 2 litres is outrageous (it's normally 3 soles).

But #4
We stayed in the far-far side of the hotel (also to do with the Groupon?) when taking showers, we had to run the hot water for 10 minutes before it was actually hot. The TV also did not work (not just the case for us, but others as well). We were also not given any information about getting room service or how to call reception. Any time we wanted something we had to actually go over to reception to ask our non-smiling and unhelpful friend over there.

But #5
There was a lot of maintenance work going on in the hotel during our stay. There were also not many guests. Another reviewer made reference to the movie "The Shining", I would say I can relate to that!

But #6
One night, I received a call on the hotel phone in our room. My friend informed me that they had called the hotel on the landline and been told that they had to call back on the mobile number and pay the mobile rate. What's with that? No doubt our friend in reception had something to do with that again!

Overall, I am really pretty upset that I have to write this, but I do. It's a great place, but there are a lot of buts...
