“If you are in Puno go here for a great personal tour!”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

We had just arrived in Puno on the Andean Explorer and found out our hotel was very close to this amazing ship. Arriving on board a very enthusiastic lady showed us around and her English was very good. The story of how it got here from England (and the engine was made at Petters in the Thames - so we think it may have been built in Staines where we used to live) is a totally epic feat.

The brass work is spotless and the restoration project is well underway. You make a donation and there is some merchandise to buy if you want. You can even post letters on board. If you are in Puno and no doubt visiting Lake Titicaca, do spend a hour of so here, it is part of the lakes history.

“Beyond Belief”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We decided to vist the Yavari on our way back from the Uros Islands instead of continuing on the long journey to Taquile Islands, so glad we did (and that isn't just because it started snowing). It's worth considering the effort made to import this steam ship from the UK, and then carrying the 210Tonnes of kit ship in 2766 mule loads from the Pacific to Lake Titicaca at an elevation of 3810m. The ship has been beautifully restored and is well worth a visit.
We also enjoyed the walk along the train tracks to the Libertador Hotel.

“An English steamship on Titicaca lake?”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

This ship was taken to lake Titicaca in pecies from the Pacific ocean( it took 5 years), now it is in great conditions and you can even sleep there( very clean bunk beds and bathroom).
It is on a very quiet side of the lake next to a very nice hotel( entrance trough the hotel.
Just worth to go.

“Worth it just for the views of Puno”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

For a few dollars you can take a taxi out and back to this ship, which was brought here over the mountains. The view is amazing, and for anyone interested in 19th century ships, it is amazing to see one so intact. The crew is very friendly and gives a very thorough tour.

“Who would have thought a steam ship would be interesting”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

I was told before coming to puno , there wasn't anything to see here , the history and effort it took to get this ship here and the efforts to restore it is worth a look , also nice views of the lakes and outskirts of town ,
