“Great comfortable hotel in Puno”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

The hotel provided a complimentary pick up from the bus station, with both a driver AND a guide. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Our room and bath were very large and cheerfully decorated, and the beds were large and comfortable, with plenty of covers. It was quiet at nice so you could get a good rest. The hotel provided an excellent continental breakfast with many options, and omelets to order. Puno is a city with lots of rough edges, so as you approach the hotel you might wonder if you made the right choice, but we found Puno to be safe and friendly, and the Intiqa Hotel is very close to the pedestrian walking street and tourist restaurants. It was an easy 20 minute walk down to the dock for the cruise to the Uros Islands, and a somewhat more challenging 35-40 minute walk to the condor viewpoint above the city. We really enjoyed our stay!

We have spent 2 separate nights in this hotel (night between the two was somewhere on Titicaca lake).
Both times was great. Service was great, food was good, rooms were comfortable.
We have left our luggage in the hotel while visiting Titicaca.
Location is perfect. 1 minute walk from the main street.

The hotel offers very good value; the rooms are a very good size with 2 double beds per room. The beds are comfortable; the bathroom is also a good size and a heater is provided should it be required. The hotel is well located being a short walk to the main pedestrian area: Jiron Lima. The staff were all helpful and pleasant for example arranging taxis and ensuring we were charged the correct rate by the taxis drivers. The breakfast was very good with a good variety of foods available including eggs cooked to order, my only complaint being the quality of the coffee.

A short two block walk from the main square and pedestrian mall - and at this altitude you'll appreciate short distances. The hotel also has an elevator (5 floors), so less stress and gasping for air going up and down (coca tea is available in the front entrance all the time and you can get oxygen if you need it). It is built around a central atrium, with a small restaurant located in the lower level. A small, but varied and good, buffet breakfast is served each morning. The restaurant is not always open at night, but there are many small restaurants located along the pedestrian mall (about 2 blocks long). You are only 3 blocks from the cathedral. Many, polite, street vendors in the area, along with many small boutique shops selling almost everything under the sun. Puno seems to have a celebration of one sort or another going on every day/night, so there's always a parade of sorts, a band playing, dancers and lots of colourful activity. The main marina for boat trips on Lake Titicaca is about 5 minutes by tuktuk (2 soles), or taxi (5 soles).

The Intiqa offers no view of the lake, but it is near the main plaza with numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and activities just footsteps away. It's not 5 star. So look elsewhere if you desire 5-star amenities, but I challenge anyone to find better value for the money. It's clean. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Staff is friendly. Breakfast bar is good. The only reason I do not rate it excellent is that I had no hot water for one of my showers. I was only there two nights, and the water was fine for my other 3 showers.

Room Tip: The top floor is great. Quiet.

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we booked a stay at the Intiqa Hotel for 2 nights. The check-in procedure went smoothly since the receptionist spoke excellent English which really helps because our Spanish is dismal.
Rooms are spacious and the bed was larger than a king size bed with plenty of pillows. we were very comfortable. Breakfast was better than expected and you can have eggs made to order.
The hotel is located near the Plaza de Armas and the pedestrian street is round the corner where there are number of places to eat.
Again, the checking-out procedure went smoothly. They arranged a cab for us in the morning. If you are planning a visit to Puno, stay at the Intiqa.
