The location is a little difficult to find at first, but if you are going to the hotel directly from Airport and take a Colectivos, which is a small bus, just tell the drive the hotel name and he will take you there without any problem. The room has its own bathroom and you can have warm water running, though it takes some time to get it warm. Room is very spacious otherwise it easily gets cold even during the day.
I had a difficulty in reserving room through email, as the guy, probably the owner, speaks English only a little. I sent the email asking the room availability and he just sent me saying, 'ok, 15 dolares'
Overall, not bad place to stay, but you will probably find a better place with similar room rate.

This place is not a hostal, but really a hotel. Maid service, clean towels, sheets, private bathrooms, etc. No breakfast though. All at hostel prices.

But here is why you should stay here - they are GOOD PEOPLE who work hard, are proud of their hotel and give you the best service they can. We left our iPod on the bed. We got to Lima the next day and realized our error. We pretty much thought it was a goner - never to be seen again. We called the hostel and they had it! Not only did they have it, but they arranged for a member of their family who happened to be going to Lima also, to bring it with them, meet us in a Lima and give it to us. They were so shocked when I handed them a gratuity for their kindness in going out of their way. They truly expected nothing. This, as most travelers know, is the exception, not the norm.

Despite the name this is a hotel not a hostal.

Pros:
Excellent location a couple of blocks from the main tourist street.
Great value for money. I thought cheap!
Large, spacious and clean room.
Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff.
Hot shower.
Secure left luggage if you stay overnight at the lake.
They can arrange lake tours and other tourist trips.

Cons:
No heater in the room and Puno is COLD at night, especially in winter! I was wearing 6 layers of clothes and 3 bed sheets and was still chilly!! Even a portable heater would have helped!
No internet or free wireless (although there are many internet shops around Puno).
No laundry service. Nearest is 5/10 mins walk away (come on they could easily outsource this and make a few bob)

Overall though a nice hotel and I would stay there again.

Los Pinos Inn is a nice hostal in the center of Puno. The rooms are simple, but practical and clean. It feels more like a hotel than a hostal. The breakfast is above average as well. Warm water around the clock.

I found this place in my travel book (used Frommer's, only book on Peru they had in my library heh), and it said it was a good place for a good deal and had ample rooms. It definitely lived up to everything the book said and more! The rooms were plain but came with a private bathroom, and everything was functional and nice.

The reason I give it an excellent review was the service! We got in and we were absolutely exhausted. When we arrived at this place with no reservation, the owner(?) treated us very well, and though he didn't speak much English, he understood every word we were saying. He suggested the perfect itinerary for our stay and booked everything we needed! It was wonderful! We got some sleep before seeing the sights, and it was great to have everything done for us and not have to think about it when we first got there.

Thank you Los Pinos Inn!

More like a hotel than a hostel. Our room was really nice, if a little cold (although you can´t really escape that in Puno). It was very clean and there was always lots of hot water and good water pressure. The rooms do have terrestrial tv although the reception is not the best and the channels are all in spanish. The breakfast was very good, bread jam, eggs etc. Well located and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Sometimes they lock the front door during the day - there is a white doorbell on a wall to the left - it looks as if it should be for next door but it isn´t. If you press it they will come and let you in.
Overall a good value option.
