Follow the Rio Madre de Dios and then the Rio de Las Piedras Rivers for about 8 hours or 160 km by boat or take the "shortcut" of 2 hours by car and then 2 hours by boat, that is where you find the remote Amazon Research and Communication Center (ARCC) lodge. Although there is currently no research done here, it is a perfect place the study the still intact Amazonian ecosystem. In only four days without making a large effort about 100 bird and 14 mammal species were easily accounted for.

The lodge building and its 7 bungalows are ideally situated on an Oxbow lake not far from the Las Piedras River making it easy to explore the pristine rainforest by foot, pontoon boat, or fast boat. Each of the bungalows is built on stilts to cool it down at night and has a comfortable full size double or two full size beds. Beds and windows are covered with mosquito nettings. The separate bathroom accommodates sink, 24 hour hot and cold shower, and toilet. Electricity generated 500 m away from the lodge is available three times a day to charge equipment and provide illumination in the evenings. Short walkways connect the bungalows with the lodge where delicious meals, considering the remote location, are served three times a day.

Highly recommended for its remoteness and exclusiveness! A very special place for rainforest enthusiasts.
