“Incredible guides”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

After spending two nights at the Hacienda Concepcion, this was a slightly less spectacular stay. The resort is bigger and there was a large group who arrived later on the day we arrived. Their "exuberance" made our stay less enjoyable and resort staff were so busy tending to them that the other guests were at a disadvantage. Food tends to cater to a blander more international taste than the kitchen at Concepcion.Cabanas with a view of the river are better than those near the main building. Noise will carry from the bar. We decided to book private expeditions and had Wilson as our guide. He is a gem. Can't say enough about his knowledge, graciousness and assistance. We went for a day up the Madre de Dios - piranha fishing - the experience of a lifetime. Don't miss it! The Canopy walk is bird watching heaven . Wilson made the jungle a welcoming, fascinating place and made our trip one we will never forget.

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica gave us an awesome rainforest feel. The food they provided
For each meal was delicious. I did have to mention the routine scheduled absence of electricity without back up in the middle of the night which gave us some discomfort. But the suite, the activities and it's location in the rainforest were all excellent.

We recently returned from this resort at the end of December 2013. The property itself is incredible, set amidst the Peruvian side of the Amazon. The individual cabins are incredibly clean and well appointed. The style is typical rustic lodge. We had two cabins adjacent to each other, one for myself and my husband and the other for our three children. We booked our suite with the plunge pool option. I would highly recommend that you do this as the resort has no pool and after a long hot humid day of exploring it was wonderful to come back for a refreshing cool off. I think the resort only has two such suites so be advised to book early. In each suite each bed had mosquito netting around it which is a must. The windows were also covered with netting so at night you would fall asleep to the sounds of nocturnal insects and other creatures and in the morning be awakened to an incredible array of bird sounds. Because some of the excursions involve lots of walking through trails that are muddy (as they were as we were there during the rainy season) the lodge provides rubber boots for all their guests to use. This is great as you don't have to worry about packing extra boots. Around the lodge grounds sandals or runners are fine and you don't really need insect repellant. However once you leave the lodge you will need the repellant and light coloured cover ups to protect you from all the mosquitoes. Don't forget hats. We did but luckily the gift shop had a few. Unfortunately that was the only useful item of clothing they had so try not to forget your long sleeve tops and pants at home. The food at the restaurant is great and included as part of your travel package ( obviously there is no where else to eat!). The excursions are good but it can be difficult to sometimes spot the wildlife. We were quite lucky thanks to our amazing guide Sebastian. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and really patient with our children. We also paid extra and went on the piranha fishing excursion. Our boys absolutely loved it and it was a highlight of our trip to South America. We would highly recommend this excursion. All in all a fantastic property with friendly staff who really do whatever they can to accommodate you and make your stay amazing. I will recommend this resort to all of our friends and family. I am very particular about where we stay and this ecofriendly yet beautiful lodge exceeded our expectations. One last note is that there is no electricity for part of the late afternoon and late night and no wifi but you don't miss it at all as there is so much to see and absorb

Room Tip: Suite with plunge pool option

Oscar was our guide from inkaterra and seemed like he was more interested in surfing on his phone internet than guiding us through the amazon rainforest. He did not seem to be interested in his job. He took us for a jungle trek and morning boat ride. On the way back, he spoke to us constantly instead of showing us wild life.

The Sandoval lodge and the pick up drop off process was very professional and good.

Maybe inkaterra should check if their guides are interested in their job, next time!

My family and I visited the lodge and had a wonderful experience! The food was phenomenal, the guides were excellent and extremely knowledgeable. We have also been to Iquitos and the two don't compare. Iquitos is like a petting zoo, while Puerto Maldanado is unspoiled and you see tons of animals in their natural habitat.

Room Tip: They have a few rooms with pools in the back that will allow travelers to cool off during the heat o...

Totally shocked by quality of accommodation. It was amazing. we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. the spa is great at the end of a long day. Food beautiful but the trip is made so special by the guides, who bring the forest alive for you.. a truly wonderful experience.

We traveled with 3 children and had 2 cabanas. Our guide Moises was the best. We were up early every morning often having breakfast by candlelight , excited about the days adventures. We especially loved the canopy tour and the night crawler tour. It was hot, hot , hot. The fans offered some relief but we had a blast. Feeding monkeys, trekking, boat tours canoe rides- it was quite an adventure. The food was first class, the service was impeccable. We stayed 4 days 3 nights which was perfect. We were ready to head back to civilization and less mosquito repellent!
