Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 1, 2013

I spent 3 nights on 4 days at Reserva Amazonica in August this year. We had just the most fabulous time. The food was outstanding, the accommodation was beautiful and the guides made the trip unforgettable. From the moment we were collected from the airport and taken to the butterfly house we knew we had made the right choice for our Amazon experience. A quick transfer through the town of Puerto Maldanado to the boat and a 45 minute boat ride up the river to the lodge. We were welcomed by the loud ringing of the welcoming bell and provided with full details of our stay and taken to our cabana.
The power was off on arrival, so it was a little tricky finding our way in the dark, but it added to the excitement of what was to come, particularly with the added thunderstorm and being woken on our first morning by a couple of howler monkeys at our back window.
We loved the Lake Sandolver excursion and want to say a special thankyou to our wonderful guide Jesus, who shared and appreciated the Australian sense of humour and with who we had many many laughs.
Hope to return with the rest of my family one day.

We stayed at Amazonica as part of our trip to Peru that included stays at 2 other Inkaterra properties. All were wonderful, and this was no exception. I do have to agree with a previous poster that the check-in procedure was rather long and seemed to involve quite a few steps and a lot of waiting. Also that the info talk on the first evening reminded me of a large tour. But I imagine that logistics of getting a group to a more remote location and getting them all settled in is more difficult that regular checkin at a 'normal' hotel, plus they provided drinks while we waited. Just anticipate that this is procedure and enjoy your welcome beverage. Once checked in and on the property, it was a nice touch to have our luggage delivered and waiting for us in the cabanas.

As previous posters have mentioned, the cabanas are rather close to each other and are mostly open with screen 'walls'. Although it takes a little bit to get used to, as it felt less secure for a city-person like me, I didn't mind it at all. It definitely feels like super luxurious camping, and that's exactly what I signed up for. I also loved the fact that electricity was off at night. Going to dinner and hanging out by the light of a gas lamp is not an experience that I have in my regular life, and it's nice to be forced away from your electronic devices.

All of the meals were delicious, very filling, and of high quality. It was actually quite surprising to me how good all the food was, considering how difficult it must be to source. We had plenty of variety for our stay and though it was a good blend of Peruvian and international cuisine. You get one free pisco sour every evening, and price for cocktails/wine is very reasonable if you want to order more after that. The tours that we took part of were a lot of fun, and the descriptions were on point. There are a variety of excursions depending on your activity level and how long you want to spend. We did book massages in their spa room. We were only able to book one at a time and the massages weren't particularly good, but it was a relaxing time and a nice experience to have a massage by candlelight. Overall an amazing time and I would go back in a heartbeat.

We had a very nice 3 days here as part of our Peru adventure and could not fault the accommodation. Unfortunately the weather turned quite cold and the piranha fishing trip was cancelled. I think without it the excursions over a 3 night stay were a bit repetitive and it would have been nice to have slightly more variation, We did get to see quite a lot of different wildlife and fell in love with Sami the baby anteater. The highlight was seeing a sloth on our night walk.

the cabins are closer together than you might expect (especially after the landscaping of at their Machu Picchu property) - but the hammocks are great and they end up being lovely places to hang out. But you need to resuist the temptation as there is so much to do -- we did terrific included expeditions to Lake Sandoval (an absolute must); the treetop walk; the night time walk (good if you like tarantulas up close); and a night time boat ride... but one of the highlights was being taken for a swim in the Madre de Dios river - suggsted by our guide.

the central area is great for relaxign in . the only criticism is that gettign there takes a long time, and once we arrived, we had to wait to eat and it took a frustratignly long time to get to our cabin. But once we got into the swing of the place, it was great. Food was fine (though we missed the MP quinoa pancakes!)

make the effort to watch the sun rise over the river. Magical

Room Tip: they are all the same -- but if you are nearest the river or forest you will have one side free

What a great experience and one we are still talking about. To enjoy your time here it is important to go on as many trips as possible. The cabana's are excellent and had all the amenities required for a 3 night stay. Breakfast and Dinner were very good, however variety is limited as we had the same menu during our stay. On our arrival the temperature was over 30C but a cold front , which normally lasts for 4 days ,arrived on the third day reducing the temperature to 12C !.Hot water bottles were put in our bed on the night - amazing.Special thanks to Sonia who was our guide throughout our visit to Lake Sandoval and the Canopy walk. We would recommend staying here without any hesitation.

I came here as part of my honeymoon and it really is luxury in the rain forest. We didn't see too many animals but the lodge, the food and the people were all amazing. I would highly recommend.

I would particularly recommend the on site spa and the lodge with the private plunge pool!

Room Tip: Choose the lodge with the plunge pool, its worth every penny!

My hushand & I stay there for 4 days 3 nights. Mr. Andres and Ms. Sophia very nice and helpfull. They do care about their members. As per another review, food are very good, and very decent. Drink is chargeable, but price is very reasonable. All their activities arrangement are very good, no complain. Their lodge are keeping very well, and no worry about the hygienic. Highly recommended to people who first time to visit Amazon. If you have the experience there, you can choose their another Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion coz the place is more wild....if you want to get more challenge, should go there....for first time, better stay at Reserva Amazonica.

Room Tip: take the plunge pool room, its worth it.
