We stayed 3 nights and went on all the arranged tours in the jungle. Very friendly and knowledgeable guide, who could spot animals everywhere. Very relaxed and nice atmosphere at the lodge, when having breaks between the tours.

We had the pleasure to spend two nights in a cabana right by the river. The views were amazing; room was clean, comfortable and exotic. Though you need to understand that you are not in a five-star hotel in America - you are in the jungle after all. A few things to have in mind before you go so you have the right expectations: it's hot and humid in the amazonia; there is no air-conditioning; only six hours of electricity in a day - when you can have the fan on; washing water is yellow because they do not use chlorine; there are more mosquitoes this year than normal.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful; food was fresh and tasty; the excursions very well organized. My son loved the experience and my only complaint was the mosquitoes!

Room Tip: when booking, make a request for a cabana by the river. you will not regret!

We kicked off our Peru trip with a stay at this location. Everything from arrival to departure was handled efficiently. Our guide, Sonia, was terrific. I thought the 4 days 3 nights may have been one night too many. Unless you're a lover of all things nature, it may get slow after a while. If you're just wanting a taste, I think 2 nights is perfect.

Big shout out to Gunner, our lovable waiter.

It was so nice just hanging out here. There were plenty of activities. The food was very good. Our guide, Gabriel, did a wonderful job pointing out animals and things that were barely visible. GET A CABANA and make sure you get it. One person in our party, did not get the Cabana they reserved. It was so beautiful. Bring plenty of high DEET bug spray. I didn't get bit- but the bugs certainly tried. The highlight was the treetop canopy walk. Interestingly, we didn't see a ton of animials but it didn't detract from the trip. Food wasn't as gourmet but not bad either. THis place overall is a bargain. It is quite close to Puerto Maldonado so the boat ride there is only 30 minutes. A couple of disclaimers. First, this isn't the place for you if you want an internet connection. Don't go to the Amazon if you need to be connected. Second, there is no electricity for a few hours a day. Hang out in the bar and grab a drink. This is a very pleasant stay. It's not cheap, but it is worth it. It was so nice being taken care of and not having to make any decisions.

Room Tip: Cabana is a must!

I had a great stay here for 3 nights as part of a group tour. Most of the group were in the main building, but I got lucky and was allocated a Cabana. It is definitely worth staying in the Cabana's - the whole experience will be completely different. The guides were good, the organised excursions were good, food excellent, and a really magical place to spend a few days. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Stay in a Cabana, not the main building

inkaterra is the epitomy of "roughing it" in luxury. The cabana my friend and I stayed in was modern, spotless and pretty much bugless as well since it was net-enclosed. The nights were cool so an air conditioner was not missed and during the day the ceiling fan gently encourages afternoon naps after a morning out treking (and a quick shower to "de-stickify/sweatify").

Meals were delicious and the staff friendly and considerate. However, if you stay at Inkaterra, you have to understand that it is still in the jungle. It makes sense that you don't drink water from the tap and the water is not completely clear, that the plumbing is such that you don't flush tissues down the toilet, and that the electricity goes off during certain times of the day (such as in the afternoon when you are on an excursion or late at night when you are sleeping). You will also need your flashlight (provided by inkaterra) with you at all times at night when you go walking outside. Moreover getting in and out of the motorboat over the prow several times a day was not exactly a joy either. However, these are minor inconveniences that you forget about soon enough when you see gently glowing lanterns greeting you upon returning to your cabana oasis after dinner, or the fascinating march of leaf-cutter ants, the flight of the red macaw overhead, and the cute monkeys jumping in the banana trees (seriously; we saw them in the banana trees near the cabanas!).

Note for Inkaterra - My friend and I had fun looking at the clear night sky and seeing new constellations of stars (we are from the northern hemisphere). Unlike the city, there is a lack of lights, so the stars shine brightly. Perhaps a star-gazing activity would be in order . . .

Room Tip: Definitely a cabana is the way to go! The rooms in the main building, while convenient, don't h...
