“A beautiful Inn 2 km from downtown Boquette”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

We stayed in the riverside loft suite with our 3 kids for 3 nights. This inn is beautiful, very classy and super comfortable. The customer service is also great. We loved that our kids beds were upstairs in the loft and our bed was downstairs. The beds were comfortable and we slept well with the window open (no ceiling fans or screens on the window to keep bugs out- both woul have been great to have.) The restaurant next door had a nice atmosphere for the daily continental breakfast. We always added eggs which were only $1 each! We ate 1 dinner there for our anniversary, and there was a great family jazz band playing (Mon. nights) that were very friendly. The Inn gave us a bottle of wine as a anniversary gift which we really appreciated. The cab ride to the rather odd downtown was $3 each way. We didn't care for the downtown but really like zip lining (Tree Trek), taking a coffee tour (Dos Jefes), and hiking the Pipeline Trail (thanks to the manager, Jh...)

Room Tip: Ask to be on the river side. The rooms in the front are on a noisy road.

I chose the loft room for a 1 night stay with my husband. The room was lovely, and the bathroom was beautiful, spacious with a large tub and double sink. The atmosphere was of a luxury spa hotel with soothing music, bathrobes and high ceilings. The location is close enough to town but far enough out to feel in nature.

However, having visited in low season with only half occupancy, this place felt very empty. The office was closed at 7pm when we left the room to go to dinner, and was still closed at 8am when we went looking for coffee. There was no one to be seen all evening and morning which felt a little like we had rented a lovely country house and had it to ourselves. Although I knew it was a guesthouse, it was weird not having anyone to help or ask for anything, we were left to our own devices for 90% of our stay.

The fire was not in even though it was cold, which was a shame and there was no one to ask for the Internet access code. The attached restaurant was excellent but closed very early.

The loft room (maracuya) is completely overlooked from the road so you can't open the curtains until you are fully dressed, and there is some noise from passing traffic. Try to get a room at the back of the house. I would go again, but make sure to ask questions at check in.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the house

Nice and friendly staff who helped us with getting our luggage transported from David. The rooms were great and the nearby restaurant The rock was fantastic too. We liked the honesty bar concept, and the free internet access. It was a clean and nice place in beautiful surroundings. We recommend it.

We stayed two nights. The room was really good, with two double beds and tastefully decorated.

The Rock restaurant was really handy, with good food.

The staff were helpful organising our coffee tour and zip wire trip.

Would happily stay again. Only gripe was the room cleaner tidied our things, which we couldn't find for a while!

We stayed here for three nights in a "junior suite". The room and bathroom were very large, the bed was comfortable, and the common areas provided plenty of good, comfortable space. Internet access via wifi was included, as was breakfast at the restaurant next door. Jhanela, the hostess at the Inn, went above and beyond to set up tours and arrange taxis for us, and even spoke to a rental car agency for me in Spanish to work out details of a car I had returned in Panama City! The only slightly negative thing I can think of is that with the wind (causing us to leave shade up) and streetlight out front, sleep was hard to come by - I think the riverside rooms would be better than those on the road side - both junior suites are roadside. This probably isn't usually as much of an issue, but it was for two of our three nights. The location is close enough to walk to town - walking takes about 15 minutes. A taxi ride to/from town averaged $4. The honor bar is a really nice touch - you can grab water, beer, wine, etc and just check off what you took - it is added to your room charge when you check out - and nothing is expensive. All in all, I would recommend this place and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a riverside room if you can - they are quieter.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Riverside Inn which, as it name applies, is alongside a river. We had reserved the largest suite, the one with the large deck. The room was large, as was the bathroom. There were tile floors (so much better (cleaner) than carpet for a hotel room) throughout; the bathroom included dual sinks, a large shower as well as a Jacuzzi tub-for-two.
Both managers, Monica and Jhanela, are hospitality professionals; young ladies with bright futures.
We enjoyed spending our evenings in one of the three common areas (one was a living room, one a family room, and one a TV room), watching TV, reading, journalling and chatting with the other guests. (I think there are six rooms.) During our 11-day road trip across western Panama, we stayed in five hotels. This is the only one which offered the use of a computer and Internet without charge. (We traveled with no electronic devices at all.)
It does seem as if there is some deferred maintenance:
The windows and doors, not only in our suite but in the common areas as well, need to be inspected due to the wood swelling in the rain. The bottom 12 inches of the shower curtain are disgusting (mold, mildew I presume) and should be replaced. The grout in the shower stall needs to be cleaned to get rid of the mold/mildew. (This is a common problem in Boquete; one needs to stay on top of it.)
Complimentary breakfast is included; it is served next door at The Rock. Only the continental breakfast is free. If you want more than a continental breakfast, you may have it but you must pay for it at menu prices. (No discounts for hotel guests.) I recommend the cranberry pancakes.
It was fun watching the wind and rain from our room (large French doors open to the back / river).
I do believe the roof is metal (a popular roofing material in Boquete because of its light weight). There was a lot of wind and rain during our stay, all of which we heard on the metal roof throughout the night.
We had a king-sized four-poster bed. It creaked. Every time either of us changed position. It creaked. Every time I coughed. (I was sick, so coughed frequently.) It creaked. Every time either of us got out of or into bed. We joked that people were probably impressed with this old couple whose bed creaked all night long, for two consecutive nights!
The Riverside Inn is definitely one of the places in Boquete that visitors should consider. But beware that it has fallen victim to flooding. In fact, the restaurant next door (The Rock, which is owned by the same company that owns the Inn) was destroyed by floods and rebuilt not once but twice.
There is an honor bar in the TV room where one can help oneself to snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine and liquor. There is a binder with a page for each guest. The guest takes what s/he wants and checks it off on their page.
This is not a "hotel" per se, so there isn't a parking valet or any bell man. The managers were extremely helpful with special requests; and the cleaning lady helped us haul in our luggage.

Room Tip: The largest suite has a large deck near the river, but it does not actually overlook the river. Dur...
