La Montana y el Valle Coffee Estate Inn
Ranked #2 of 12 Hotels in Boquete

We wanted a place close to the town of Boquete, yet far enough away to enjoy the native forest and listen to the birds. What we found was paradise. We stayed in one of only three private bungalows on the property. The views of the volcano, the valley and the lush native forest were incredible! The owners truly love and respect the land as they have cared for their property that has arabica coffee trees, too many native trees to count and the most beautiful tropical plants. Walking on the paths through the property to observe birds and just feel one with nature was a healing and true treat.
The bungalow had a large comfortable terrace to view the gardens and watch the sun set over the volcano. The bungalow itself was spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortable. There was a separate bedroom with a well equipped kichen, dining and sitting room. Each day there was fresh fruit picked from the trees to make juice with the electric juicier. Also, coffee was ROASTED daily so we could ground our own. What a treat! In addition, homemade banana appeared in our refrigerator daily. While this service, location and beautiful bungalows are exceptional, the owners were passionate people who are living their dream. This dream which they have fulfilled is creating a place that is paradise------a retreat, an opportunity to experience nature with exceptional service and detail to comfort. This is definitely a repeat for us.

When I was planning our trip to Boquette and e-mailing Jane, one of the owners, for information I could tell by her responses that La Montana Coffee Estate was going to be a visit to a very well run establishment. I was not disappointed.
We were four life long friends and casual birders traveling together. All four of us agree that of the four places in Panama where we stayed during our 12 day visit to the country this is the place that gets the #1 rating from each of us.
We rate it on the basis its exquisite mountain scenery, proliferation of colorful birds, attractive sparkling clean comfortable bungalows, and fresh excellent food provided for our breakfasts. We would rate Jane and Barry equally high on their helpfulness, friendlyness and attention to our every need. Jane has got to be one of Panama's best cooks. We had her prepare a salmon dinner ending with a lemon desert that we will long remember!
We agree that as we reluctantly went on our way we expressed the hope that we will be lucky enough to return another year.

The owners - Barry & Jane - have thought of every possible detail to make you wish you never have to leave. The bungalows are charming, the beds are very comfortable, and the views of tropical gardens and mountains from every window will enchant you! This estate is truly paradise. Every day we were provided with freshly roasted coffee, delicious homemade breads, and bananas and oranges grown on the property. It's a wonderful way to start the day sitting on your veranda watching the colorful birds at the feeder and sipping an incredible home grown coffee! Don't miss Barry's coffee and garden tour. Having lived in Kona, Hawaii for 5 years, I thought Kona coffee was the best in the world. But now I love the shade-grown Boquete coffee much more! The only "problem" with this place is that there are only 3 bungalows - so they might already be booked. If they have room for you, definitely stay here. I promise you will be so glad you did!

You can tell when people care about their guests. It might have been the two hour coffee tour with personalized roasting, fresh coffee beans in the morning to make coffee, fresh oranges to make juice, fresh banamas or the homemade banana bread. Coffee Estate Inn is well run, friendly, accommodating to visitors needs, and very restful. Since they only have three cabins I almost hate to say anymore. This is a must for Boquete.

The Coffee Estate Inn was everything we hoped it would be: a beautiful, quiet, peaceful setting, comfortable bungalows, fantastic scenery, great views, great birds, great food, and amazing, personal service. Jane & Barry are friendly, helpful, interesting people who genuinely seemed to thrive on ensuring that we had the best vacation possible. The food was also fantastic, and the unique way in which they present the dinners is amazing; delivered right to our cabin, and with what might be the most beautiful, creative use of flowers on a table that I've ever seen. (I've seen beautiful arrangements in vases, but they make spreads directly on the white linens that are wonderful.) The coffee is fantastic, and even though that wasn't WHY I chose to stay there, by the time I got home I had gotten so spoiled by the aroma that I ordered myself a coffee grinder so I could enjoy freshly ground coffee at home, daily. The porches are great for morning coffee outside overlooking the light on the volcano, and the cabins are comfortable inside, too. It wasn't hot up there like it was on the coast (we were there in December); we had great weather for walking and just hanging out, relaxing, and when we wanted hot we went down to the beach. There are several drives we took (day trips) that Jane and Barry described and they were great. Jane & Barry were so helpful about customizing things for us (if we wanted a short drive, an all-day trip, a long walk, etc). The birds there are great, as are the flowers and well-tended paths right outside our door. It's a great place to recharge your battery; if you want a quiet, beautiful place to simply sit and stare at a view and watch the light spread across a volcano, and if you want to be near Boquette but not right in town, this place is perfect!

The Coffee Estate Inn was perfect for us. The private cabins are lovely and tastefully decorated. The setting is spectacular, with an amazing view over the valley to the volcano. The birds are fabulous. We had dinner served in our cabin all the nights it was available, and the attention to aesthetics and friendliness of the service were terrific as was the food. It was great to have a little kitchen, and the breads, coffee and fruit provided for breakfast were super. But what I will probably remember most is the friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts, Jane and Barry. They did everything possible to make our stay pleasant and interesting. They're wonderful advocates for Panama and very knowledgeable about the area. They helped us fill our days with fun exploration and never led us astray - everything they suggested was as promised. They spent a lot of time ensuring that we understood directions and were well prepared for our day trips. This is a beautiful, quiet place - ideal for a romantic getaway, or for spending a quiet week with family. It's not for the party animals, but perfect for those who like individual attention, a beautiful natural setting, and wonderful attention to service.

This B & B is located on the hill over looking Baru volcano and the town of Boquete. The views are the main attraction as they are ever changing, clouds on the volcano, rainbows and brilliant sunlight. Intersperse that with orchids and flowers of all kinds, blue crowned mot mots and red legged honey creepers on the fruit filled bird feeders, fresh roasted and ground coffee picked on the estate and breakfast goodies delivered to your bungalow, and you have one incredible place to spend some time.
My wife and I and my sister in laws spent 7 nights there in early January (actually I was off fishing for 5 of the nights) and we all had a wonderful time. The "bungalows" are very well equipped and quite luxurious. The air is fresh and the sunlight magical.
One of the things that sets this place apart are the dinners the owners Barry and Jane offer that are served right in your bungalow. The flower arrangements, candles, cuisine and attention to detail are worth the trip from anywhere. I had great fishing in Panama but returned to hear my wife and her sister's stories about all I had missed and was heartsick not to have more time to enjoy all the estate has to offer. They had fabulous dinners (imagine- when you are done you put the dishes back on the tray and put them outside the door and they magically disappear!), they had an incredible drive up over the mountains towards the Atlantic and relished the fabulous birding and scenery right outside their window. They took a day trip to the beach and walked outside each morning to the smell of fresh roasting coffee.
Needless to say, we brought a lot of coffee home with us and the photos taken by Jane of us in her garden were waiting on my e-mail when I returned. It doesn't get any better than that!
