La Montana y el Valle Coffee Estate Inn
Ranked #1 of 12 Hotels in Boquete
Reviewed March 1, 2013

We stayed for two nights in February as the perfect place to stop and explore Boquete.

The owners Jane and Barry were exceptional at arranging our transportation from Almirante to the Coffee Estate and having a rental car dropped off for us at our doorstep.

The cooler temperatures during the evenings in the mountains were a refreshing change to the heat and humidity of the coastal areas.

Our fridge was stocked everyday with freshly baked goods and fresh cut fruit for our breakfast. The freshly roasted coffee from the estate is probably up there with the best I’ve tasted.

It’s a very short drive into town where we found a wide selection of very good restaurants to eat.

Our cottage was entirely private with a stunning view of the valley. While I took several photographs in the Boquete area, I believe the best photographs I took were simply taken from the deck of our cabin (see attached). The room was meticulously clean and well stocked with everything we needed.

Room Tip: The lower cottage had an unobstructed view of the valley.

We do not have enough positive adjectives to describe our thirteen night stay at The Coffee Estate Inn B&B. Located about five minutes above Boquete with stunning views of Volcan Baru, Coffee Estate Inn offers three self-contained cottages that provides luxury, convince, and relaxation. If you want to start the day with a plentiful breakfast of coffee roasted yesterday and ground today, fresh fruit, and home baked breads and scones, this is the ideal B&B. Our immaculate cottage provided a large bedroom with a comfortable king sized bed with first class sheets and pillows and towels. Our large bathroom, with heated floors, contained everything one would need for an extended stay, and the kitchen/living room was practical and useful. Both the bedroom and the kitchen/living room had views of the Volcano Baru, but the spacious balcony allowed us to enjoy breakfast outside in a peaceful setting where we could enjoy the beautiful flowers and colorful birds of Panama. However, the reason we enjoyed the Coffee Estates Inn B&B was the loving attention to detail and concern that Jane and Barry provided to our stay. They made us feel as if we were the only couple staying at their idyllic B&B. They provided us a personal tour of the grounds, taught us about the growing and processing of coffee, the flora of Panama, and the many varieties of spectacular birds. In addition, Jane and Barry provided us maps and directions for day trips into the verdant mountains above Boquete including a day trip over the continental divide to the Caribbean resort area of Bocas del Toro. Jane and Barry also provided a special "date night" dinner in our cottage in which we enjoyed a sumptuous dinner of salmon and fresh steamed vegetables with candle lights and fresh flowers.

It is hard to beat waking up to a view of the sunrise reflecting off the mountains seen without even getting out of bed. But when you do get out of bed there will be freshly baked muffins waiting for you in the fridge and the estate's own coffee ready to be brewed and drunk on the balcony overlooking said mountains. Then, while you are on the balcony, the various tropical birds will come to the feeders just below you.
The owners were very generous with their time. They gave us great tips for driving routes around the area, which we did and took some of the most beautiful photographs of our trip. They then prepared for us a "date night" dinner that was delicious and romantic. It was very clear in everything they did that the owners wanted us to enjoy ourselves and every attention to detail was thought of to make sure we did. When looking back on our trip as a whole (all around Panama) our stay in Boquete was the highlight for me. I genuinely can't recommend a better place to stay.

We enjoyed three nights in a private, spacious cottage. This ideal setting has unbelievable views of Volcano Baru! We were close to town, surrounded by dense forest, flowers, coffee and lots of birds. Delightful hosts, Jane and Barry, were attentive and full of helpful knowledge of the area. Prior to our trip we were sent detailed and extremely helpful information. Each morning we enjoyed home baked breads, fruit and fresh roasted coffee on our private deck. It doesn't get any better than this. We enjoyed a home cooked meal with a great bottle of wine on our first evening. Date night dinners are available.
Barry's coffee tour is a must! We brought some home with us.
We will recommend to our friends and family.

Our two nights at the Coffee Estate were the highlight of our trip in Panama. The bungalow and grounds are super comfortable and peaceful, and have all the amenities you would want. The views from our balcony were perfect. But what really set Coffee Estate apart is the level of service and attention to detail from Jane and Barry. After arriving late (and tired) our first night, for which we were scheduled to do the "date night" dinner, Jane and Barry both welcomed us personally and gave us a brief rundown of the property, but quickly gave us time to relax and settle in before our lovely candlelit dinner. Jane's tips about activities in the area are incredibly detailed and made a huge difference to us. She even knew to tell us the best place to sit in a local restaurant -- a tip which led to a lovely fireside dinner which we likely would have missed out on but for her. At the end of our stay, Jane made a point of offering to take our pictures around the grounds and sent them to us by email the same day. Just another small detail that makes Jane and Barry's "slice of paradise" a unique and stand-out place to stay. Wonderful!

We stayed 3 nights here and everything about our stay was wonderful and comfortable (maybe even a bit too comfortable). We had their driver David pick us up from Almirante – he speaks perfect English and is a wealth of knowledge about Boquete and Panama, which was perfect for the long drive. Barry and Jane are extremely nice and accommodating. We took advantage of having Jane arrange for a rental car for us to use during our stay (we used it to drive into Boquete for lunch/dinner, excursions, etc) – the car was waiting for us at the Inn when we arrived, no need to pick it up, which was very convenient! We returned it at the David airport, where we caught a cab to the bus station and took a bus to Panama City. Also, Barry’s coffee tour was excellent, the flora at the Inn is beautiful, and Barry is very knowledgeable and passionate about coffee! The room/villa we stayed in was very nice. It was great to make coffee in the morning and have breakfast out on the deck while looking at the incredible view of the volcano. Date night dinner was very nice, Jane goes out of her way to create a very nice setting, and the food was great. We would recommend the Coffee Estate Inn to anyone.

We stayed there in nov for 3 nights during our honeymoon. Jane and Barry are amazing hosts! They will go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy everything about Boquette. They are also willing to give you lots of tips and answer any questions. Even in the info brochure they send before you even get there! Saved us from getting scammed by a cop even!
Try planning to be there for one of their date nights they really make it special! Also make sure you take the time to tour their beautiful property!
Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Thanks Jane and Barry!
