“Great First Riding Experience”

Franklin's Horseback Riding
Ranked #5 of 13 Nature & Parks in Boquete
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 3, 2013

My husband, daughter (13) and I are not equestrians by any means, but she wanted badly to go horseback riding on our vacation in Panama. We booked through Boquete Outdoor Adventures, but the experience all came down to Franklin. Like other reviewers have said, you can tell he really cares for his horses - it was a pretty hot day and he was very careful to make sure we took lots of breaks and let the horses roam a bit and get a lot of freash water.

The scenery in Caldera is absolutely breathtaking. Franklin knows every twist and turn like the back of his hand and we didn't ever feel unsafe, even though we were all pretty much newbies. Like the other reviewers have said, he is also very fun to talk to and quick with a joke.

One thing to note is that there is not a lot of instruction - maybe 5 minutes at the beginning when Franklin told us how to hold the reins and direct the horse. Of course, you learn as you go along but if you're new to riding, and the type who needs a lot of instruction and theory first, you might not find that here. We found that refreshing coming from the sometimes overly cautious (and litigious) U.S. :) We just wanted to get out and ride, and that's what Franklin helped us do. It was a great time!

I thought this horseback riding tour would be in Boquete, instead, I was taken to nearby Caldera or 'crater'. This area is mostly private land and is made up of beautiful rolling hills and trees surrounded by a panoramic view of the mountains. It's an incredible, relaxing place to be, especially at sunset. Franklin's Horseback Riding tour is a trip you will never forget!

Franklin was great! The ride was most memorable and I would recommend it to most anyone. I am 55 and my wife is 63 and we both enjoyed it very much. Be sure to take time to talk to Franklin, we found him to be a very interesting man.

We have always enjoyed exploring a region or community on horseback for its unique perspective. The key to a good trail riding experience comes down to the guide and the horses. We had the good fortune to schedule a sunset ride with Franklin Rovetto who is a philosopher and an engaging conversationalist who happens to love horses. He will match you with a horse that suits your size and ability. All his horses have that comfortable gait so common to a breed whose ancestors originated in Andalusia. He will awake you on a tour of a good part of his cousin's 300 hectare cattle ranch. You will enjoy spectacular panoramic views from the caldera which offers 360 degree views of the Highlands surrounding Boquete as the sun descends below the mountains in the distance. At the end of the ride you will have made two new friends: your horse and Franklin.

An awesome first experience on a horse. If you want to go horseback riding in Boquete, this is the place to be. Franklin is a very frendly guide who loves his horses. He cares a lot for his animals, doing one ride a day in the afternoon so the he can take care of his horses in the morning and ride them during the cooler afternoon. The animals are happy and well taken care of. We first rode around the neighbourhood of the farm to get to know the horses and allow the temperature to come down a little bit and then rode up the mountains were we had a spectacular view. Franklin gave us excelent advise, I always thought it would be harder to control a horse. The farm is under further development to improve the experience for vistors. It is the first time I went horseback riding in Panama and I loved it!
