We have just completed a 12 night trip to Panama staying in 5 different hotels, of different standards, after reading the reviews we were really looking forward to this hotel. Yes the views are spectacular, some of the very best we have seen, but this doesn't resolve our problems. Checking in, the guy behind the desk, was polite but didn't explain anything about the hotel, where breakfast was, what time etc. We asked if there was an information pack with reference to the hotel and area, 'no there wasn't'.
Later I asked him to explain the facilities and I must admit he did eventually. The bathroom sink had no plug, he couldn't offer a spare or repair, suggesting we change rooms, after we had unpacked.
Breakfast average for Panama, eggs served many different ways and fruit salad as the non egg alternative.
I read one of the reviews that stated that the dog noise, 'well that's just Panama and we should get over it'. Sorry to report that it is impossible to sleep at this establishment when the dogs in the vicinity start barking and boy do they bark often, I estimated 4 or 5 dogs barking and they do this in chorus many many times through the day and night. Our room was on the left side backing onto the dogs, I don't know if it was any better on the right side. I had ear plugs inserted and they still managed to wake me many times on each of the 2 night stay.
There appear to be many nice hotels in Boquete, which is renowned for its wildlife, its just a shame that the domesticated animals can ruin a stay.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- A Boutique Inn in Boquete with tropical gardens and volcano views. Originally built as a fancy stable, this boutique hacienda still celebrates all things equine - think bronze horse statuettes, a cowhide rug, and rooms named for the former barn residents (Chombita, Rosita, Solita, more). Wrought iron, regal columns and colonial arches abound, as do tasteful furnishings picked up around South and Central America, including an impressive snakewood dining set carved by hand in Argentina. ... more less
