“Good atmosphere”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

Very lively atmosphere, which tended to mean that some evenings were very noisy, as nobody bothered with the 'no noise after 11pm' request. I had a large cabin overlooking the river, which was very clean and pleasant. But it did get chilly on my little terrace with a strong wind. A hot tub in the garden by the river is an added bonus.

this is a lively place with lots of common areas for hanging out and getting to meet the other travellers at the hostel. It's a great atmosphere, really reflecting the generous and sociable character of the Hostel's owner.
The place seems to attract artists and musicians, and if you can make it here on a Thursday night you'll be able to enjoy the free BBQs cooked by the owner, with delicious meat and salads and drinks prepared by the guests.
Highly recommended, my choice of places in Boquete! :)

Room Tip: there are little cabins next to the river where you get the sound of the river all night. Very relax...

I had a private room and it was perfect. Big room, clean, bathroom working ... but they didn't have a double of the key that I locked in the room ! Oups... they now have a new set of keys after demolishing the old door so I could get my stuff (I apologized 100 times but they said they should have had a double of the key and they knew it would happen someday). They were nice and quick to fix that ...

The staff are great, the location is excellent (little outside town so relax but online 5 minutes walk to the action), the setting next to the river is beautiful and the kitchen is huge with everything I needed.

Did the volcano baru hike with them... well planned with the truck to pick you up. Also almost went to the hot springs, but the old car they had broke while going there. That's just part of life and the staff is so great (they apologized like 100 times also) that you can't really blame them as they do their best to make your stay perfect. BBQ that night for the birthday of a guest.... really cool as everyone brought something including wine/beer !

I have never stayed in a "hostel" before - and I made my reservation with some trepidation. But this place was wonderful!. Two blocks from the main town - quietly nessled next to a fresh running stream, with orange trees and flowers right outside my door. My room was spacious and clean with a little deck outside the sliding glass door. I stayed in a private with my own bathroom - extremely peaceful, lovely place -- I am sure the best place to stay in Boquete -- which is THE place to be in Panama (if you enjoy natural beauty). The owner seems to be a visionary -- looking at constant improvements and taking great interest that his guests are enjoying their stay. A couple of nights he even cooked an amazing barbeque and invited all to partake. The staff was friendly and accomodating and eager to help with any problem. It was obvious they liked their jobs and their boss. If you are looking for a place that attracts interesting young people from all over the world --this is it. I'm so glad I spent my 9 days in this little piece of paradise.

Room Tip: There are regular "dorm" rooms inside the main building -- but a more limited number of un...

Boquete is a peaceful, relaxing and beautiful spot and hostal refugio is the best place to stay in town. Its super tranquilo location along a small stream, ample kitchen, free wi-fi, numerous computers and super friendly staff, make this place any easy choice.

There's really nothing to complain about at Refugio.

My bed was made perfectly and the sheets smelled like fresh linen (which is rare among hostels...let's be honest). The kitchen is massive with ample cupboard place to store everyone's groceries and three people can be hanging out around the stove making paella without being anywhere near the couple washing dishes. Large communal dining table is conducive to conversation, as are the hot tub by the river (no I'm not kidding), the couches in the lobby, and the picnic tables and hammocks by the river.

Upstairs bathroom boasts piping hot water and ample counter space to unfurl your cosmetics bag.

Private rooms are in a separate building from the main house, making them nice and...private. Owner and staff are all locals who have watched Boquete evolve and can give you sound activity advice.

It's a 2 minute walk from the bus stop but not on the main drag, making it a quiet refuge indeed. The flatscreen in the lobby might play some telenovelas during lunch time, but bienvenidos a Panama.

Lockers are $1 (and pretty small), internet is stable, and everything has lots of natural light. Interior of main house is all lacquered and nice and clean and shiny- no years of 'backpacker grime' coating anything here.

Room Tip: One of the private rooms in the 'external' building has its own bath and a bunk with a doubl...
