Wadi Shab was the coolest attraction in the Sultanate of Oman....it takes about an Hour and a half to get there from Muscat. You can park your car under the under pass in the car park and then for like 0.100 omr (about 3 usd) you can get in a little motor boat with this old Arab guy and he'll take you across the river from the car park to the trail head....it takes another 45 min to hike all the way into the area with the waterfalls and cave...but its worth it! also, there will be many guys that will try to "lead" you so they can be your guide and then charge you money...its best if you have an arabic speaker in your group (for my group, I was went up to this guy and told him to get lost in arabic, and that we weren't in need of a guide)...you don't necessarily need a guide as the trail is clearly marked and other people will be on it...get there around noon if you plan on getting in and out before sun down....(that leaves ample time to play around in the water)...There is also a little shawarma stand in the village on your way out and has good food, and bottled water..

Loved it very much. When you arrive a couple of men are there with boats to bring you (for 400 bias one way) to the other site of the 'river'. Then you can walk thru the Wadi. First part is sand and there after cobble stones and rocks. If you have some difficulty walking this is not the spot for you. But already the first part looks impressive. At the second/third (?) pool we took a dip to cool down. Great, it was 38 degrees celcius and this was just what we needed. Because of the temperature we did not go further. The surroundings are beautiful. Where you park your car there are also public toilets (very clean!). You can also change clothes here.

Our whole family hiked and swam up to the cave at the end of the Wadi. The cave is amazing and the hike and surroundings at the Wadi are excellent. A must-do when in Oman.

The increasingly adventurous walk/clamber up the wadi, beneath the spectacular, soaring walls, is wonderfully rounded off by swimming/wading through several pools and finally negotiating the low airspace tunnel into the cave with a further waterfall.
Warm water in breathtaking blues and fabulous water-worn rock. Difficult no to descend into cliches, but this really is a sensational place.

You must do this. You must go all the way to the end of the pools and swim into the cavern. If you have children, they will love this. There are great "rock jumping" opportunities. Our favourite day in Oman.
