It is very interesting to see the ruins and the stunning setting overlooking the sea. You can even smeel the frankicense. We had a very good local taxi driver who took us around and showed us the best sights in salalah . His no is : 00968 99495586 - Said Ali Said

In a hurry to tackle the long-drawn-out journey from Salalah to Muscat before nightfall, bad roads and sandstorms my friend and I shot over the mountain leading out of Salalah. In our haste we saw a sign indicating a field of franckincense and had to brake suddenly and make a u-turn. We had been in search of frankincense fields throughout our short stay in Salalah. We came upon one on the mountain and was shown by a worker the various stages of growth of the trees. It was amazing to be a part of this seemingly barren and windy environment from which this mystical aromatic resins grow. I am glad we stopped to explore.

If you can find it...and I think there are a few places, its a fascinating visit, very humbling. Back to nature.

I have visited the place, where there are a large number of plants, which when pricked a white liquid like gum will ooze out. This will have a great scent. I happened to touch it and the scent remained for a long time even after washing.
The site is now being built, may be after some time the site will give a different look all together.
Only problem with this site is that if you want to go to Thumrait (towards Mascut) you have to take a long detour towards Salalah and come back.
