“Very Excellent Vacation”

I liked this hotel for one major reason "REVIEWS" I love this site and reviews on it. As said by other reviewers it was fantastic hotel, with great garden and pool design. When i went with my family "as middle eastern" we liked this hotel for its calmness and different services. The rooms is tidy , but the air condition is that much cold, may be i wasnt lucky with my roomm but it was always around 23c which is not that cold for me in counting the humidity out side. The breakfast and different restaurants, specially the one near the coast are very good and very good barbique. After the breakfast you can go out and take a taxi for a full day for only 25 Omani Rials, which you take you for mostly every scenary in Salalah. In the night you can choose from swimming in the pool or set in the out side cafe and have some Shisha which very good. Nice stay and perfect hotel. But i hope they improve the air conditioner.

We traveled to Salalah during the Khareef season this year and chose this hotel for the Hilton name. We were not disappointed. The rooms were big and nice. The beds were comfortable. The service always came with a smile and was prompt. The decor and facilities were also very good. The only complaint we had was the food, there was hardly any choice, the quality was below average and the prices were ridiculously high. But would defiinitely stay there again.

...in the middle of nowhere.

I can't think why you would want to visit southern Oman on holiday but if you do you could do worse than stay at the Hilton Hotel in Salalah which maintains Hilton's excellent standards of comfort and service.

The hotel occupies 3 floors and is spread over a 6 acre site with free-form pool, several bars and landscaped gardens next to the beach between downtown Salalah and its industrial port.

The rooms are spacious and very well appointed and have all the usual comforts you would expect from the Hilton brand. The restaurants are very good and reasonably priced but alcohol is expensive. So the hotel itself is excellent, especially bearing in mind how much you'll have to pay for a superior room (I paid £30 per night for a suite in mid May)

However, it only deserves a 2 because the most significant drawback to staying there is that there is, literally, nothing for 5 kms in either direction. To do anything other than lie in the sun you have to run the gauntlet of toothless taxi drivers who will try every under-hand trick in the book to fleece you. Fares into the town ranged from 3 Riyals (about £4.50) to 8 Riyals (about £11.00) and there is no alternative if you don't like the price.

If you do make the trip there is some fun to be had walking through the Souk haggling for frankiscence or myrrh or other Arab-inspired knick-nacks but not more than a day's worth. There aren't the shopping malls of Dubai either - they're dusty, down at heel local shops and bargains aren't that easy to come by.

The hotel can arrange trips to see something of Oman, which is supposed to be beautiful, and it has to be worth it because the hotel is sandwiched between the beach and unremitting, featureless wasteland of rock and sand.

If you have a very high tolerance to sand and are too much of a sloth to move from your sun-lounger for a week you may well enjoy the Hilton but otherwise go somewhere else on holiday and hang the expense.

Stayed at this hotel for five nights in February 2006. This was my second visit having previously visited in 2000.

Hotel infrastructure has remained in good condition and the rooms are some of the best I have stayed in at the price. The problem is that the hotel now caters for package tourists from Sweden and this is sadly reflected in the food standards and service.

Buffet food at a cost to suit the package tour operator is the order of the day. An a la carte option may be available but again the food quality is not high which is disappointing for the more sophisticated traveller since the hotel amenities generally are rather good.

I have yet to try the alternative Crown Plaza hotel 5 star in Salalah but am led to believe that this hotel is also blighted with Swedish package tourists.

I stayed in Hilton Salalah 16 to 18 January and would like to comment as follow: The room was nice but internet connexion cable wss near the bed so it mean you have to seat on the bed to use your lab top which is not convenient. The service around the pool is non existent, I wanted to order a sandwitch the staff told me to go and seat at the coffe shop, went there and placed my order and asked the waiter to let me know by the pool know when it will be ready they refused and told me I have to seat and wait at the table... there is no beach service for drinks which is a shame as it can get hot, overall service is poor, maybe because the hotel cater mostly to tours groups arriving by charter flights twice a week from Sweden and guest are non demanding, the felling it give me is that most of the staff lack genuine kindness and are bored to provide efficient service, The only positive issue is that the hotel is new and clean, it look like a USA Holyday Inn type of hotel.

The Salalah Hilton is a great place to get away from it all, lounge around the pool or on the nearly deserted white sand beach and read a book. The hotel is isolated from town on a 4 km long beach with very few buildings around. The hotel has great service and very good restaurants, for a Hilton reasonably priced, all of which overlook the pool or the beach. The pool area is full of coconut trees and well kept grass. We went in February and we had a week of sunshine with temperatures every day 30 degrees and at night it only dropped a degree or two. The hotel does overlook the container port about 2 km away and a cement factory about 1 km away but this did not detract from the ambience. From our room we saw camels grazing below our room. The beach itself is lovely and a great place for a leisurely walk with no one around. This area of Oman is very different in the summer from the winter as it rains and drizzles from the monsoon, turning the countryside into a green landscape with temperatures averaging 22 degrees. This ironically is the most crowded time to visit as Gulf residents flee the intense heat farther north to come to Salalah.

By Third World standards, I was impressed by this hotel's cleaniness and services. Yes, it is far away from the city center and you get to wait a while before getting a cab but, after all, there aint much to see in Salalah except the Jewelry district in the heart of city, the old souq in Haffa and, of course, the very splendid white-sand beaches. The hotel should organize tours to Salalah's attractions and to sorounding towns and villages like Taqa, Mirbat, and Raysut. Hotel rates are a bit expensive. An advise, don't miss out on buying some gold from the jewelry district-- it is really cheap and be sure to bargain.
