“Great location and staff”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Good value for money. Sam and Annie Kumar were fabulous hosts - very friendly and helpful. They arranged taxis and a tour guide for us and promised to step in at 4 am if our taxi did not arrive when we left for the airport.

The hotel has suites rather than rooms. The accommodation is OK, but could be cleaner and better maintained. The pool was OK, but the bottom was not clean at the deep end.

Generally we were well looked after. Breakfast is very good with eggs cooked to order. If you're lucky, you may get treated to Mrs Kumar's excellent biryani.

The location is good, with the beach right in front with pounding surf and seabirds. The Crowne Plaza hotel is just a few minutes walk away if you want a meal or coffee. I have to say that the cleanliness at this 4 star hotel wasn't any better.

Room Tip: We liked room 9 as we had a sea view and we were at the top of the building. However, the lift broke...

Salalah is an unique Place & at a first glance difficult to say that its a part of Middle east. I stayed in Beach villas for Two days and I do not have words to describe the beauty of the sea view from this Hotel Room .It was amazing , spectacular (Almost like a dream come true),but Place is bit expensive compare to the facility provided by Beach villa . There is no super mkt close by which seems to be a disadvantage while staying at B&B. Even getting taxi its difficult as the place is located bit interior . all and all view from the hotel is worth and for that if I paid extra OR ( Omani riyal ) I feel it was worth it :)

We arrived to an empty reception and called the number left in place of a receptionist. Over the phone Mr Kumar told us to go to villa 11. Somewhat bemused, we realised a different hotel called Arabian Sea Villa began where villa 11 should have been. The receptionist in Arabian Sea Villa seemed as puzzled as we were and called Mr Kumar to find out what was going on. I am not sure why but they decided we would stay at Arabian Sea Villa. None of us were particularly happy with this arrangement...we thought we would be staying in a hotel with a swimming pool, rather than next door. Not that this would have mattered as upon arrival we saw the pool had been drained. We felt we should have been informed of this because it was a factor in our decision to book with Beach Spa. Also we found Mr Kumar's non-appearance and apparent indifference rude and unprofessional.

The Arabian Sea Villa was so-so. The TV didn't work, there was no mini fridge and there was no hot water the first night. Eventually all of these were addressed but we were a bit irritated we needed to chase down amenities.

Salalah is a tricky place to get good accommodation. Most of the good places are big hotels which lack intimacy and a sense of the local culture, and are all out of town. Beach villas is close to town, relatively inexpensive and very much on the beach. (In fact, you park your car on the beach itself! The beach then spreads out a very long way in both directions). The rooms are nothing special but the views are good (many rooms have terraces or balconies - Mrs Kumar kindly showed us three different options before we chose) and Mrs Kumar was very helpful and accommodating.
Salalah itself is not as exotic as one might hope. The best thing to do is hop in a rented 4WD and go exploring to both the west (some great beach and mountain scenery towards Yemen, with camels wandering amongst the frankincense and the freeways) and the east (Well of Birds, Wadi Derbat, etc). These don't tka elong to get to, with the great roads everywhere.

Room Tip: All the rooms with balconies or terraces give good views

We drove from Muscat to Salalah and just loved the experience. Watch the desert changing with different colors of sand, the dunes, the rest places along the way, everything was interesting. Just be prepared for Turkish restrooms (toilets for the British)!
Since we had a car, we enjoyed the location. Most of the touristic attractions are not in Salalah but on neighboring rural areas and cities like Taqah (a must see).
The hotel is basic, furniture is okay but the facilities need maintenance and basic cleaning would help.
The pool was filthy, there were children playing in it but it was not inviting to me nor to my family.
The hotel is okay for the price you pay.

Room Tip: The penthouse is a nice option. With a veranda surrounding the room.

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon for a few days.
The room was very large, (but separate beds), with a large bathroom and there was also a kitchen (with fridge, very useful for keeping water cool in the heat of Oman!).
We had a balcony, oceanfront, fantastic sight, and above the pool.
The apartment has air conditioning worked well.
Your hosts are very friendly, kind and sympathetic.
Usually even prepared a dinner (extra), managed type buffet, with food typically Indian (very very good!)

I stayed at Beach Villas for 8 nights. Mr and Mrs Kumar are wonderful hosts and will anything to help you have the best stay possible. They can arrange anything you need for your stay, including car rental and trips to the desert. There is not enough to do in Salalah for 8 days, 4 days at the most is enough to see everything, unless you are content to just relax and read on the beach or on the terrace.

The place does have a nice location, if all you want is a beach. The view is fantastic, particularly if you have a terrace, on the top floor, not a balcony. It is a really nice, quiet beach, where you can walk for miles, and can see herons by the water. The weather was perfect, nothing but sunshine.

The Crown Plaza is a short walk away, and you can go there for drinks, meals, massage or pedicure. Other than that, you will need a car or taxi for anything else you do. I paid 20 OR a day, or approximately 60 Cnd dollars. A taxi to go to the souq is usually around 4 OR to go (12Cnd) - you can bargain down if you are good at it. Coming back it usually cheaper and i did it for as low as 1 OR.

The area around the property is not nice, lots of half-demolished, abandoned houses, empty lots with garbage and debris, garbage bins and lots of stray cats. Also, they are building a new building in the lot adjacent to the property, so there is the occasional construction noise. Furniture is a little tired.

Breakfast is basic: bread, butter, processed cheese, jams. Instant coffee, tea, and orange juice. Bananas. You can request an omelet or fried eggs.

Sometimes they offer dinner, which is absolutely delicious.

If you do stay, make sure you ask for what you need, management is really helpful!

I would recommend this place to a friend, with a warning about the location and the construction noise, many or most people would not be bothered by these..
