“Arabic tents? No, thanks!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013 via mobile

The place is nice and the personell is helpful. Many things are still under construction, the pool for example, but most of the facilities are up and running. We stayed one night in an arabic tent. It was the coldest night ever! Temperature goes down to zero degrees in this period and the little electric heather was not enough to warm the ambience up. Staying inside the tent is as being open air since air enters from everywhere. If you come here go for a house or give up. The dinner was good and plenty.

After a very adventurous drive from muscat into the mountains i arrived here to see the most stunning view of the sun setting and the hotel covered in clouds.

The drive is a long one but well worth it, its adventurous and something you cant experience anywhere else.

It is a basic resort, With either Tents or Chalets. The tents have twin beds and an en suite outside, the tents are covered with what looked like cement. Covering the cement is Arabian cloth, looks very cute!

The chalets are quite larger, bathroom inside as well as a tv and clothing cabinet. The Room did smell of Moth balls and the bathroom was very small. You will be showering next to the toilet. The bathroom did smell slightly of sewrage and there is no place to put your dry clothing as everything in the bathroom gets wet when you shower as it is very small.

The beds are very hard! And they don't provide you with many blankets (it does get cold up there at night) The pillows were AMAZING!

The staff are very friendly! And helpful. The restaurant food is fine, not fine dining but decent.

But for a hidden resort high in the mountains it was an experience like no other, To see that sunset and sunrise the issues with the room does not matter its all about the experience and it is well worth it.

This was a really pleasant suprise. We were hoping to spend a night over the Eid break at the JSR (Jebel Shams Resort) but it was fully booked so we booked here instead. It was slightly cheaper at 60SAR per room per night (for a couple) this included a great breakfast and a lovely buffet stle evening meal, nothing fancy but just really good food. We all stayed in Chalets (booked a total of 5) which were all functional and everything worked. The place was really peaceful and wonderful. We all fell in love with it and said we would come back. There are firepits between each chalet, and after dinner, the campfire was startted, the guitars came out and it was a perfect evening to start our tour of Oman.

The resort was absolutely fabulous. We stayed in the big house secluded in the back of the resort. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. They even went as far as cooking just for us when we were late for dinner. The place is very clean, yet basic and the food is of good quality. One of the best features of the resort is the drive to it. Spectacular, but 4 WD is necessary.

With just over 3 hours drive from muscat, this is a great place to un-wind and explore the nature. The drive was amazing, with paved road most of the way but to get to the resort theres a 20kms stretch of dirt roads, so a 4x4 is required. The resort was nothing fancy and we (family of 2 adults and 1 child) stayed in the arabic tents which offered great views of the mountains. The tent was simple with an adjoined bathroom and a fireplace. We were offered a dinner and a breakfast which was included in the rental, the food was basic but adequate and we preferred to have a bbq of our own late night after having dinner. The place is a must see and dont forget to pack warm clothes as it got pretty chilly at night.

Room Tip: If you are a family book a chalet rather than an arabic tent as it got pretty cold at night and the...

This is a simple resort (think of a campsite with permanent buildings as opposed to tents) in a great location. Getting there is an adventure and the resort itself is very isolated, which we liked.

The rooms are basic - with ikea style furniture and a very interesting (??) decor, but very clean indeed. You are given a towel each and there is a shower in the bathroom. We didnt use air con as we left the windows open (which had mosquito nets). Bed was hard and comfortable as were the pillows. Sheets very clean.

staff here were super friendly especially the Philippino guy on reception - really welcoming and knowledgeable.

The resort is rustic - which we loved - I saw two others that were more polished but the location was not as isolated and 'in nature'.

Food was basic but nice, except I found breakfast a little too basic - I would like for there to be more choice.

Overall a great experience. The price for dinner bed and breakfast was 70 OR. I think this is a little steep considering how basic the offering is, but then again I have no idea how expensive it is to transport good up this mountain.

I would go back and I would recommend it to others.

We have stayed twice at Sunrise Resort in the last month and have enjoyed both visits. We prefer the Arabic tent as opposed to the chalets. The tents are elevated on cement foundations and are very sturdy. They can sleep about 6 comfortably. If it gets too cold at night, you can plug in the heater. There is a separate toilet building, complete with hot water for a shower, immediately outside your tent. Towels are also provided. Playground for kids. Lots of nature to explore. The entire resort is very very clean and the staff are super. They really take care of the resort and change the garbage bins every morning because goats come around. We were provided with wood for a fire and although food is also provided, we prefer to bbq our own food. The sunrise and the sunset are beautiful. Good value. Quiet. Relaxing. Fresh air. Well worth the trip.

Room Tip: Tents are nicer and more traditional.
