Al Nahda Resort & Spa
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Barka
Reviewed October 9, 2010

Al Nahda Resort and Spa, we could reach there after driving half an hour from the Airport. The reception and the approach of the staff were wonderful. We could check in within 5 minutes. I could understand from the golf cart driver that it has more than 600 mango trees in the resort and 150 rooms. The rooms are pretty big, spacious, good area for the children to play around. The facility and the rooms are far, but you can manage with the bicycles or can book a golf cart by calling up the reception. The best attractions of this resort are its greenery, pool, and the most modern gym. We can the whole day cycle around or enjoy ourselves at the poolside. The evenings can be made eventful with the games or a couple of drinks at the Waha Bar enjoying the music and a buffet dinner at the Khalab Restaurant. The steam tunnel, Jacuzzi, meditation room, children’s park, laughing park ensures the enjoyment of its own kind. The problem that I could understand in the resort is the room service speed needs to be improved and the buffet dinners have less choice for the vegetarians. The camel ride and the horse riding available are fantastic. The Spa and the Spa staff were wonderful, but do need to book in very advance to get an appointment. In brief, I will say that there is no such property available around in Muscat for enjoying holidays with your family.

I'm not sure why this hotel is described as a 5 star hotel given its shoddy service, poor food, unimpressive rooms and general shabbiness. In terms of the room, it was just a basic one bedroom, one floor, villa with old a/c's, despite the fact we were in an upgraded room. The service was awful; we waited 1 hour and a half for a cup of tea from room service and then we waited for almost 2 hours for a golf buggy to pick us up, before we just decided to walk in sweltering 45 degree heat (and it was quite far away). The only positives was that the pool was really nice and the grounds were quite well mantainted to be fair.It annoyed me that the pool bar was still pretending to be part of a 5 star hotel and charged an eye watering price for a simple bottle of water- 2 Euro 50. Many real five star hotels provide it free of charge without you even asking.

The food was the biggest dissapointment. We were conned into paying 30 rial for a, "Seafood buffet," which consisted of them getting rid of their out of date seafood. There were only 2 types of fish as well. The cakes looked and tasted like they had been bought at the local supermarket. Breakfast was even worse, the waiters went around with cafetierres of instant coffee! Why use a coffee plunger with instant coffee? It was so disgusting, I couldn't drink it.

The bikes were a disgrace and I'm sure a lot of people have been injured as a result of malfunctioning breaks, flat tyres and loose handlebars. The whole setup is a con. If you still decide to go after hearing what I've told you, remember you've just paid 5 star prices for a hotel ran like a 3 star.

It is a good place to stay in natural settings and ambience for a short or long period. Very affordable and economical for company outings and tours and get discounts too. In fact i found it worth recomending to those who wold have decided to travel to far away places by spending a fortune. This green natural place in a desert settings with a good and excellent ambience is recommended to all nature and calm surrounding lovers.

Very nice rooms but in 3 days I was moved 4 times because of all the defects. Housekeeping very slow, bad service, rooms were not made up properly. No daily clean sheets in this expensive 5* resort! Gardens not well kept: garbage, broken bikes, fallen branches and lots of leaves. Floors tenniscourts full of empty bottles and carton cups, fences are broken. Only 2 of the 4 restaurants were open. No attendant at fitness center, children were ruining the place. Al Nahda is only 3 years old, in another 3 years this resort will be ruined. In this large resort guests can be transported with chauffeur driven buggies, but it takes a long time before we were picked up. There are also bicycles, but almost all of them were broken and parked in a large area. Finally we found somewhat reasonable bikes, but soon they were taken by others, even when we took them inside the garden of the Arabian restaurant. Sent a letter with our complaints to the general manager. No reaction. Also no feed back after writing comment form. Al Nahda is not recommendable at all..! Advice: Reserve a beach hotel in Muscat: much better and much less expensive!

We really enjoyed our stay at El Nahda during our week stay in Oman in Dec!
The hotel staff are friendly, although sometimes a bit disoriented - this apparent from the staff helping to co-ordinate the wedding reception of my sis-in-law. The banquet manager could be a bit more equiped with world-based skills and it is apparent that a stronger, modern and more "international-based" hand could be applied within management. The gardens could use a bit more attention, but apart from that, GREAT facilities, lovely rooms and good food! Lovely place to relax and recoupe after a long flight into Oman. This resort is good value for money, and we can't wait to visit the hotel and WONDERFUL Oman again - we've fallen in love with the country and her people!!!

We stayed at the Al Nahda Resort & Spa on our driving holiday along the Omani coast. There is not a lot of choice in Barka and we chose this hotel as it seemed good for families.

The hotel is well sign posted from the highway (but in the middle of no where) and there is plenty of parking. Reception staff speak English but service is slow as they insist on answering the ringing phones before helping guests (expect better from a 5* hotel). It is a large resort with different buildings for different activities... dining hall, gym, spa, pool and accommodation. We stayed in an Executive Suite which was a small building with four suites in a small cluster of buildings. The room was new, spacious, clean and had a large bathroom (shower in the bath). It was possible to walk to all the other buildings but with small children we got the golf carts (helpful and friendly drivers). Unfortunately we didn't arrive early enough in the day and all the bikes left in the bike shed were either broken or had completely flat tires; they need a maintenance program! WiFi was available but only in the reception!

We had dinner at the Arabic restaurant Samur.. food was ok but pricey and service very average, and buffet breakfast Khlab- pretty standard and busy (troubled by flies even though it is indoors).

We would recommend this hotel/spa for those who want a quiet place to swim, ride bikes (if you can get them) and don't want to travel around the area or do much else.

While not directly at the beach, it is close enough to Sawadi and way better than the Sawadi beach hotel, very spacious and very private rooms and a nice spacious complex. the food was great, really good and high quality even though they stopped for some reason to have a chef out in the morning taking care of eggs and giving you a choice, but generally i would really recommend this hotel. the rack rates are a bit overpriced but going there through a tour operator (we used our regular goldenhighlands.com but i guess all of them have good arrangements) really made a difference.
