I spent very little time in the room. I am grateful for that. The location was pretty. The room was clean but lacked a clock and anything to hang up your clothes. The bathroom was weird. There was no cups or glass to drink water. The door had no hooks to hang anything. The toilet was on a two foot step up and was leaking water so the toilet ran most of the time. My room was located above the bar and restaurant. Thank God for the air conditioner to block the loud dinner and bar crowd leaving at 11:30 and 1:30am. The last night even that didn't work. We were starting to get concerned they would make their way up the stairs. My husband went to find a place for coffee in the morning and he couldn't get back. The key he was given for the front door was not working. He beeped the car horn and I went down to let him. I am grateful to be home.

Due to Hurricane Irene, the hotel was badly damaged and subsequently closed until the summer of 2013. This review was posted before the total gut-renovation. The Stewart House is now under new management and these old reviews do not reflect the current circumstances.

We arrived at the hotel a bit earlier then scheduled check in at 4 over July 4th weekend to find no one at the hotel or attached restaurant. When we found all the doors locked we decided to try to call the hotel, no answer. Thinking the issue was that we had arrived a half hour too early (not too early to have found not one person working at the hotel) we drove around the town to kill time. Arriving back at the hotel, at 4, we managed to overhear a woman and man discussing how great it was to have the holiday weekend off from working and how surprised they were to find that no one made reservations. Hearing this we immediately went over to them to ask if they were talking about the hotel and indeed they were! The hotel was closed even though we had made a reservation with the owner earlier on in the week, boarded our dog, driven out from manhattan for a weekend getaway!!!! We were rendered speechless, never had an experience like this before. Obviously running the hotel is a mere hobby for the owner, glad we didn't even get a chance to waste our hard earned money at this hotel. Ended up getting a room at the inn at the hudson which was amazing, friendly owners who truly care about their business and customers. Stay here instead!

Great service. We arrived very late. No problems!
A clean, comfortable, spacious and airy room without too much "stuff"! Clean bathroom.
A quaint and cozy bar. A good place to spend an hour or two on a cold night.
We did not have a chance to try the restaurant, although the menu looked very good.
Stewart House:a great location - separate but close.

Had not eaten here is quite some time and was concerened about a spate of very bad reviews. In summer it appears that the indoor restaurant is closed in favor of al fresco dining on the active waterfront across the street. On a beautiful night like we had, the atmosphere was delightful. On a humid hot night, might not be so good. So check in advance if indorrss is open. Food was good and prepared with local ingredients; wine list OK with good prices. Unless you like rock music, make sure you finish by 8:45PM on weekends.

I wanted to stay at a place that would be nice quiet peaceful place. Well this place was quiet but the rooms were nasty and they food was cold when I got it. The glasses were dirty and the workers were very rude. This is not the kind of place you would want to stay at or eat at. I would rather of stayed in Historic Hudson. That would been a better place to stay and visit historic areas.

DON'T STAY OR EAT THERE!!!
