“Do Not Expect Authentic Check Dishes”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

We did not go for the beer.
The menu says: BEEF GOULASH with Dumplings. DO NoT BELIEVE IT! The gravy is largely corn starch: No sign or taste of paprika, cayenne, garlic, bay leaf or potato. The so called dumplings are three oval style slices of firm wonderbread. Less tasty or authentic than what DINERS serves every day! Red cabbage? What a joke! An insult to Chech cuisine!!!!

“Great Atmosphere/Good Beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

The setting is great in the garden. Beer choices and prices were fair and the beer nice and cold. The grill food was good perhaps a bit pricey. The atmosphere makes the trip well worth it. Great place to meet and hang out with friends.

“Good Beer but Grill Prices Way Out of Line!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

Being of Czech background and living in Astoria, the Bohemian Beer Garden was a natural. We have gone a number of times and enjoyed the outdoor garden to meet with friends in a relaxed, non-hurried atmosphere. The beer is wonderful with a dozen or more choices at $16 for a pitcher and $6 for a nice sized glass mug. I would recommend any of the dark beers (cerne or dunkel depending on the origin).

Here's the problem... the prices of grill items have gotten way out of line! $10 for a knockwurst and piece of bread is ridiculous. How about $6 for a hot dog. Want sauerkraut? It will cost you an extra dollar.

Two other concerns. The Czech food dosn't compare with the competition. Koliba, a couple of blocks away is significantly better. The second concern is the ridiculously high volume of the music we encountered yesterday. We wanted to engage in conversation with a friend. He was sitting directly across the table but I could not hear a word he was saying because of the excessive loudness of the band. Why do people think the louder the music the better?

Will we return to the beer garden? Sure, but only to enjoy the beer, outdoor atmospehere and ability to sit and chat as long as we like. For snacks or Czech food, we'll go elsewhere.

“Great time!”

This place was a lot of fun. The music was great and the beer was wonderful. Lot of good beer choices and it was served ice cold. Good snacks to munch on. We really enjoyed ourselves.

“Nice atmosphere, good prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013

We split a couple pitchers here; no food. The beer prices were good and the atmosphere is great. I'd recommend as a good fun place to be with friends.
