We went for an early evening visit to this Beer Garden, the oldest in New York, tucked away inside an old German/Bohemian neighborhood in Astoria, Queens. The atmosphere is festive with a large, tree covered garden, tents and picnic tables set up throughout. The service was excellent. They offer a large selection of beers and some great, traditional Czech (Bohemian) food including potato pancakes, kelbasi, sauerkraut, latkes, pork, beef and chicken dishes. This is not fancy dining, but very similar to the beer gardens throughout Germany, Austria and eastern Europe.

Best time to visit this great beer garden is during the winter or early spring. Fewer crowds, there's no wait for the beer and sausages and you can enjoy the large garden all to yourself.

Went with my wife and daughter and it was like being in Europe. An old and charming beer garden--a fun place to drink beer and talk. Cash only--no credit cards

This is a genuine beer garden, very rare here and the kind I loved in Munich and elsewhere in Germany. The food is good (the sausage is fine) but one goes for the beer garden atmosphere, not the food.

Not only is this place fun and relaxing, you can take kids. And they'll have a lot of fun running around, jumping on the stage, playing with plastic beer cups, filling them with god knows what, throwing it all out on the stage... My point is - grown ups can have fun with a pitcher of decent beer & sausages while having their little ones around - enjoyable to all and cost-effective! :) The best laid-back place for some beer on a warm summer evening in the area!
