“Unbelievable piece of perfect beach”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Great for swimming, snorkeling and sun bathing. So many different colors of blue in the lagoon. Don't forget your mask and snorkel! Place was not busy at all.

“Probably the clearest water on earth!”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

The water is the clearest of all we visited for snorkelling. It is however, a long walk from Le Meridien entrance to find this place!

“Natural pool”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

It was lovely but crowded; and there were a few stingers - blue bottles; not as many fish as I expected; to get there follow the water is the best way; dont take valuables with you.

“you haven't seen ile de pins until you have been here...”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We booked our New Calendonia trip at the last minute and couldn't get any accommodation on ile des pins so decided to do a day trip from Noumea instead. In my opinon, ile des pins was the best part of our trip and Piscine Naturelle was a big part of that.

To day trip from Noumea, need to buy a betico ferry ticket which leaves at 7am and returns at 5pm. It only goes Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays. We went to the betico "office" in Noumea town (just north of the international ferry terminal) to buy our tickets - remember to bring ID, they won't sell tickets without ID, drivers licence or passport is fine. The "office" looks a run down abandoned warehouse but rest assured there's a legitimate ticket office inside.

There's 3 classes for the ferry - economy, comfort and VIP. We went VIP and it cost about 160,000fps each roughly AUD$175. My choice would have been comfort class for AUD$50 less but there's wasn't availability. The difference is the seats - economy seats up to around 10 people in a row, comfort class seats up to around 5 people in a row and they have tables in between so you can face each other, i think it's good for groups. VIP only seats 2 people in a row and they're like ultra comfy business class plane seats. The economy/comfort class are similar to what you'd get in a new airport departure lounge. That said VIP has less kids running around and it's much quieter which suited us. It's also situated at the front top level. I get sea sick easily and the trip was fine, hardly felt a thing !! In hindsight, given how awesome ile de pins is, the VIP ticket was worth it (and it was very comfy).

Once you land at ile des pins walk to the Hotel Kou Bungy (follow the gravel road until a Y intersection and stay left, takes about 5-10mins). They have a few different excursions you can go on, of which one of them is the trip to Baie d'Oro which is where Piscine Naturelle is. It costs 2500fps each, the bus leaves the hotel at 10.30am and 1pm, and returns at 3pm. By the time the ferry landed and we got sorted we just missed the 10.30am trip so went on the 1pm but we found 2 hours was enough anyway plus it gave us time to swim at Kanumera bay (which is absolutely stunning as well) and had lunch before heading off.

Once you get to Baie d'Oro, wade across a river (the water was about ankle deep when we crossed) to an island and then follow the river to the right for about 10-15mins. It's one of the most stunning sights you'll come across. It's even more amazing when you get into the water, there's fish everywhere!! The coral range isn't extensive but there's heaps of different types of fish and other creatures. Kanumera bay is great but this was definitely the highlight of ile de pins.

Cause we didn't come on a cruise boat, there wasn't a huge amount of people there but i can imagine when a cruise boat comes in it would be packed. Piscine Naturelle isn't a very big pool, having lots of people would probably take the beauty out of it. If there's a way to avoid the people, do it!

The bus is pretty prompt leaving at 3pm, then dropping off back at the hotel. That leaves about 1hour or so for a quick dip in Kanumera or Kuto (which is also a stunning beach) and then back on the ferry.

If you are lucky enough to get to New Caledonia, definitely make the trip to Piscine Naturelle, you won't regret it !!

“Magnificent”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

A beautiful unspoilt island with beautiful crystal clear water. I spent the day here with a Royal Carribean cruise. It is truly a gem. Ideal for snorkeling and a great place for children. Very calm water. The locals will set up various stalls with the pick being a fellow who bbq's fresh lobster and bugs with rice ($25 AUD). If you want a totally relaxing day at the beach this place is a must. It is visited by numerous cruise ships and once you get there you will not be disappointed.
