The Secret Garden Guesthouse

Lovely little guest house with clean bright rooms situated around a lovely internal garden. Run by a Piet and his wife who are most helpful to travellers. Smashing buffet breakfasts, and a great little pizza restaurant attached which is run by the owners daughter and son. We only planned to stay 2 days but it was so good that we ended up staying for 4. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: All seem to be similarly good with some being larger.

The Secret Garden Guesthouse was a very pleasant experience and the owners are conscious of guests "coming in from the desert" and that they may be tired or wanting a shower etc..
Hosts Peter and Adelheid are most accommodating. Peter comes across as a little gruff, but can be won over with a little persistence. Adelheid is more of a people person and is sociable and immediately friendly.
It helps to like dogs, as a number of them have the run/use of the communal lounge and courtyard and use these places they do.
Overall it's A1.

Room Tip: The hexagonally shaped room may not be to everyon's taste.

The rooms are good, breakfast is fine, the bistro is ok. The place is conviently located in the center of Swakopmund. Parking is safe but not very handy. Staff is friendly, but the managent is not. They were not helpful and sometimes even rude. A real pitty, it could be such a perfect place....

Dear Mich Lien,
We are sorry to hear you found management unfriendly. could you please be more specific as there must be a reason. Regarding the parking, why do you find it not handy? We are the only guesthouse in Swakopmund that offers a alarm protected parking area. At most guesthouses you park in the street , which you are welcome to do if you find the alarm system cumbersome.

We had a long weekend there in our trip around Namibia. What a friendly and welcoming place.
The family and staff could not have been more helpful. Close to everything in Swakopmund. A heater in the room helped take the chill out of the air. You must eat at the Bistro superb pizza.
would love to go back for a weekend but it is almost 6000 miles away;(

We recently stayed for 3 days at Secret Garden Guesthouse. It has an excellent location - very close to the centre of town and beach but also peaceful and quiet. The rooms are kept spotless and like the rest of the guesthouse is tastefully decorated. The staff is very efficient - management gave us excellent advice on activities in the area. The bistro which is part of the guesthouse offers excellent value for money in a cosy atmosphere. WiFi internet is for free and fast (compared to South Africa).

We noticed some negative reviews on the rules and the owners of the Secret Garden but we have to disagree with this interpretation.

Room Tip: If your budget allows consider the luxury rooms. Not all the rooms have TV - if that is something yo...

Hallo,
Thanks for your positive review and yes! ....it seems as though you cant please everyone all the time ( allthough we try!) but sometimes we think people are just unhappy with themselves and then try and find fault elsewhere.
Hope things are going well your way and hope to see you and your wife again one day.
regards
Peter

After a really long drive from Sesriem we arrived in Swakopmund and checked into the hotel. The staff were extremely kind and helpful and assisted us in accessing the car park and showing us to our room. The place itself was very clean and well maintained. Also tastefully decorated. There was a nice atmosphere with lots of guests dining/having a drink both in the garden and restaurant. It is very well located, safe and secure, and is reasonably priced. Additionally, it has free wifi and a computer for guests to use in case you don't have a device yourself.

We were extremely happy with everything and left feeling very satisfied.

After 6 days in the desert, we couldn't wait to get to The Secret Garden. We so looked forward to a lovely shower, having laundry done and seeing the ever helpful owners, Peter and his lovely wife. Previous reviews tell of a grumpy and unhelpful couple. I could not disagree more. This is my 3rd visit and each time I have been treated with the greatest respect and Peter has gone out if his way to ferry me around to the various attractions. That included a trip to Walvis Bay to drop me off for the Dolphin Tour (at no cost). It wasn't necessary this time but they were still so accommodating. What a pleasure to be there. The new bistro is lovely. One small grumble is the unsupervised chef overloaded the pizza which ended slightly stodgy but still fine to eat. Another might be the lack of a double bed. Two singles pushed together with single duvets overlapping could be improved on. However that didn't detract from the level of comfort and the superb breakfasts. We will definitely be back to soak up some more of what The Secret Garden has to offer.
