After 3 weeks camping in the wilds Kaokaland and Damaraland, Sam's Garden was a refreshing and peaceful return back into the human race... we stayed 3 nights. With over 10 years in the area, Sam has very good knowledge on what to do and a very relaxed and engaging way of sharing this with his guests. We ate supper at the Tug and Kuchi's in town, and had our final meal with Sam on our last night... magnificent food, the best of the lot (Breakfasts good too) thanks to his dedicated staff and his Cordon Bleu chef background.
As a parting shot, Sam gave us some rolls as "padkos" for our long haul back to Johannesburg... nice touch Sam; wishing you and Beethoven all the very best.

Thank you for your comment. Now summer is coming in Swakopmund and our garden is looking very nice with all kind of flower and many birds are breeding and building nice houses.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sam's. Sam and Beethoven (a lovely Berner Sennen) are great hosts. Sam pays a lot of personal attention to his guests answering all your questions about the area. He's also very helpful in making reservations. Breakfast is very nice with a Swiss touch and Sam doesn't even mind if you take a sandwich for the road.

Great selection of wines! Unique place to drink special South African wines by the glass (Hamilton Russel, De Toren Fusion V, etc). Good breakfast. Rooms indeed slightly old fashioned, but clean and the bed is ok. But because Beethoven is around, the dog's hair is also around... The garden is nice, green, cool and a nice place to read a book, while enjoying a nice glass of wine.

This a quiet unique hotel in Swakop, The rooms are small, clean and maybe slightly old fashioned but they have a lovely charm as does the hotel. Sam, Beethoven (his dog) and all the staff do their utmost to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The food and wine is exceptional and I highly recommend the wine tasting. Sam's knowledge is fabulous and fun, a lovely way to spend a couple of hours before dinner. For those who are worried about safety, Sa's is in a perfectly safe area of Swakop and I have walked to and from the town, day and night quite happily. There is plenty of space at the hotel to park your car in the grounds. Oh one more thing to mention, Although the hotel is near the beach it also has a small but beautiful garden around it. Very reasonably priced, have stayed more than once and would stay again.

Room Tip: All rooms of similar quality and quietness

This place was one of the culinary and accomodation highlights during our 2.5 weeks trip through Namibia. We enjoyed high Swiss quality in food, wine, accomodation, conversations and knowledge sharing with the owner Sam.

The hotel/restaurant is about 10 min from the city center by foot in a calm and save area. There are about 12 nice and tidy rooms available. The food is excellent snd I'd recommend to have dinner there even if you don't stay over night. The owner Sam can provide you with lots of information about the area and Namibia.

Highly recommended, we'll be back!

Excellent! Sam was lovely (as were his staff) and really made you feel you were at home, as did Beethoven his beautiful friendly dog. He is an interesting host and really did make the stay. The rooms are nice and look over the garden which is beautiful and its an easy walk in to town. Shower is good in the room. Breakfast is lovely, really lovely, and Sam isn't worried about starting it early if you need which is someting unusual over there. Dinner was OK. Had the wine tasting which I really enjoyed and would recommend. We'd stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9 and that was fine

Just got back earlier this October and spend 2 nights at Sam's.What a nice surprise such wonderful food, nicely served with superb accompanying wine. Dining room /cellar was well stocked with wines for all tastes plus helpful guidance (not intrusive) from Sam's extensive knowledge. Equally, breakfasts were continental (and or) cooked, a delight to linger over. The rooms and bathrooms were fine. The large surrounding gardens were particularly attractive and adjoined the bedrooms. This is the" thinking persons" venue with a wealth of library literature on the surrounding locality. Should you not find the exact book, Sam could locate it immediatly and offer advice on journeys and places. His team were exellent at arranging local trips. Do try this place, as it is the true "oasis of calm" in a desert."
