Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild and mystical Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views onto the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug's popularity has grown as time moved on. Dining areas inside and on the outside deck terrace have been extended considerably, while the restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers from around the globe. The Tug restaurant offers authentically prepared cocktails, a selection of more than 140 of the finest South African wines, French champagne. Special delights from the wild Namibian ocean include kingklip, kabeljou, lobsters, angel fish and sole, John Dory, local oysters, fresh green Swakopmund asparagus. The richly diverse menu includes stuffed Patagonian squid, prawns, Norwegian salmon, Sashimi tuna. For the carnivore there are tasty cuts of beef and tender lamb, in addition to game delicacies such as Oryx carpaccio or grilled Oryx steak, Surf & Turf. There is a wide selection for the vegetarian and our delicious homemade Spanakopita is a favorite. Both owner partners George Hopking and Brett Southworth believe that no successful establishment should rely solely on its popularity. They engage in consistent attention to quality and freshness of their products, as well as continuous training and motivation of their staff, in order to provide the customer with decent service and an extensive menu and wine list.

“Great Seafood”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Great seafood, very fresh. Next to the Jetty with fine sea and wave views. Interesting bar inside the Tug. MAke reservations and request a window sea view table.

Reviewed June 3, 2014

we thought that this would be your regular tourist, commercial operation. it kind of is, but the food was excellent. absolutely loved the seafood. had the best whitefish salad starter followed by fantastic fish and chips. wine was good and cheap. all in all a wonderful surprise.

“Kinna was the perfect waitress”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

She advised us on what to eat, however I wish she'd have told me not to have Monkey Gland sauce with my KINGLIP FISH as it was overbearingly sweet. Oysters were to die for !!
Its a good job we 'd seen a review to say a table must be booked beforehand...good old 'Trip Advisor'. Although the restaurant was 'full to busting', the service was excellent and the atmosphere relaxed.

“Good food and relaxed vibe”
Reviewed June 2, 2014 via mobile

Restaurant was fully booked, but a helpful manager arranged a table in the authentic tug bridge bar. Kabeljou was perfect, steak slightly overdone. Waitering was a bit haphazard in the bar, but overall a very pleasant experience.

“Authentic but also touristic”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

An old remodelled ship overlooking the ocean. At last for some tables. We had the last one in the middle of the restaurant (reservations are strongly recommended). It was a lot of hazzle around us of the waters, like we could sink any moment. Hoever, vordering an extra drink was hardly possible.
The food was good and tast, something for which we woul certainly come back. But the noisyness of group and waters around you tel us to at last reserve a spot somewhere in a corner. We would say: too populair and a bit overpriced. Good cocktail and wine selection though.
