Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild and mystical Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views onto the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug's popularity has grown as time moved on. Dining areas inside and on the outside deck terrace have been extended considerably, while the restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers from around the globe. The Tug restaurant offers authentically prepared cocktails, a selection of more than 140 of the finest South African wines, French champagne. Special delights from the wild Namibian ocean include kingklip, kabeljou, lobsters, angel fish and sole, John Dory, local oysters, fresh green Swakopmund asparagus. The richly diverse menu includes stuffed Patagonian squid, prawns, Norwegian salmon, Sashimi tuna. For the carnivore there are tasty cuts of beef and tender lamb, in addition to game delicacies such as Oryx carpaccio or grilled Oryx steak, Surf & Turf. There is a wide selection for the vegetarian and our delicious homemade Spanakopita is a favorite. Both owner partners George Hopking and Brett Southworth believe that no successful establishment should rely solely on its popularity. They engage in consistent attention to quality and freshness of their products, as well as continuous training and motivation of their staff, in order to provide the customer with decent service and an extensive menu and wine list.

The Tug is a popular place and it's recommended to book a table for dinner. The location at the beach and good seafood are good reasons to choose the Tug. We had very good prawn pasta and grilled prawns garlic with a bottle of sauvignon blanc. The place was very busy and the service friendly and attentive. But not a place for night owls - we were nearly the only left when we checked out at 22:30.

Nice location, service good, but the desserts to absolutely die for!! In our many travels we have discovered that restaurants struggle with dessert, but not the Tug!! I had the duo choc mousse and my wife had the caramel creme brule...amazing!!

I am getting sick of writing in every review of namibia "bad or no service", but that is REALLY the norm for every restaurant in this place. Despite the lack of service, their food was very good, puddings excellent, and great cocktails. I will return despite the service.

Given how popular this place is, we expected it to be maybe average to bad but surprisingly, not at all. It gets a bit busy on the terrace in the evenings but this generally thins out once the sun goes down so you can easily find a table for dinner if you don't mind eating outside. We didn't at all but apparently local people find it too cold. Coming from London, though, we didn't notice it and actually really enjoyed watching the blue evening light over the surf with the moon coming up over Swakopmund. Very magical and special and the restaurant ambience is terrific. Relaxed, professional, very attentive.

Menu is excellent with lots of options, particularly, and obviously, seafood. We only planned on going the once but landed up loving it so much, we came back twice more. Kingklip is the best I've had on my recent trips to Southern Africa. Thick, delicious, fillets and perfectly fresh. Also had crayfish (perfect), the John Doury (my husband loved this and ordered it on all three occasions - worked out to two quid for a massive portion!), calamari (tender, fresh), mussels(same), and so on. As already mentioned, the prices, relative to what you get, are absolutely staggering in terms of value for money. Great cocktail menu as well. Have a Hard Lemonade (I think that's the name of it) - you won't regret it!

Excellent staff too. I can't remember the name of our waiter on the last evening unfortunately but he was one of the nicest people we'd met on a whole trip of meeting lots of lovely people. When I mentioned that it was the last time I'd have Kingklip for a while, he made sure I got a particularly nice piece and went to great effort to make sure I was happy and enjoying it. With memorable professionalism and generous service like that, we will definitely be returning to the Tug on our next trip to Namibia.
