Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild and mystical Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views onto the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug's popularity has grown as time moved on. Dining areas inside and on the outside deck terrace have been extended considerably, while the restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers from around the globe. The Tug restaurant offers authentically prepared cocktails, a selection of more than 140 of the finest South African wines, French champagne. Special delights from the wild Namibian ocean include kingklip, kabeljou, lobsters, angel fish and sole, John Dory, local oysters, fresh green Swakopmund asparagus. The richly diverse menu includes stuffed Patagonian squid, prawns, Norwegian salmon, Sashimi tuna. For the carnivore there are tasty cuts of beef and tender lamb, in addition to game delicacies such as Oryx carpaccio or grilled Oryx steak, Surf & Turf. There is a wide selection for the vegetarian and our delicious homemade Spanakopita is a favorite. Both owner partners George Hopking and Brett Southworth believe that no successful establishment should rely solely on its popularity. They engage in consistent attention to quality and freshness of their products, as well as continuous training and motivation of their staff, in order to provide the customer with decent service and an extensive menu and wine list.

The Tug is a very popular restaurant in Swakopmund. It is a bit of distance of the center of Swakopmund but can be reached by cab, hotel shuttle or foot. We walked from our hotel, the Swakopmund and then rode the hotel's shuttle back. The restaurant is an old tug that has been converted to a restaurant. Make a reservation or you may miss the great dining experience you will enjoy there. When we made our reservation, we were asked if we would sit upstairs. We said sure. Not everyone may like having to climb up a circular stairway so just be warned. Downstairs was very crowded. So, the quiet at our upstairs table was greatly appreciated. Our meal was just indescribable. It was the best meal we had in our 3 weeks in Namibia. The service was very attentive and professional.

beszt seafood I ever had.Excellent price quality!average dish is around USD 15 but excellent and fresh.The place is, however, not upscale, which did not bother me at all,the food compensated for it!this is an extremely popular place in Swakopmund, so reservations are a must

We arrived at the Tug after a number of recommendations and a booking confirming availability. Whilst the weather was cold and drizzly outside, the atmosphere was warm and convivial inside. We were shown to our seats on the "Top deck" and our orders taken. I had Namibian Oysters, followed by the Danie Hugo Kabeljou and cheeries and ice cream desert.My wife had the prawn option, followed by cherries and ice cream. A good bottle of wine complimented our meal which was very tasty.
The trouble happened during the night and into the following morning when I had terrible stomach cramps and spent a good amount of time saying "hello" to the porcelain palace. My wife was fine so I suspect the Oysters, but who knows... not a nice ending to the experience.

After reading all the great reviews of the Tug, decided to try it out for ourselves on a freezing cold night in Swakopmund. As the name suggests, it is housed in an actual tugboat called Danie Hugo. The atmosphere is very lively & the food delicious- I tried the blackened fish & I don’t know what was in the spices, but it was delicious. Overall, the bill came to around N$400 for all 4 of us. The service left a little to be desired-our waitress seemed a little overwhelmed with all the customers & was a little forgetful about what we had ordered. But the food was delicious & overall, we enjoyed our meal. Our bill came to around N$400 for the 4 of us.
TIP-make sure you have a reservation if planning on going on Friday or Saturday night-its very popular with tourists & locals alike!!

The Tug is a very good seafood restaurant, reasonably priced. We had prawns, tasty, and lobster, scrumptious, as well as very good beef steaks. Fresh salads and at the end the dessert, vanilla ice cream with warm sour cherries, was delicious!
