Owner description: The original Living Desert/Little 5 Tour! 08h00 to 13h30 from Swakopmund in our 4x4's: we go into the dune/gravel plains area to track the little creatures - snakes, chameleons, geckoes, lizards, scorpions, insects, etc - and also give info on the desert in general, the area's plants and minerals. Dune drive through to the sea. Scenic and educational.

Our family had a half day living desert tour with Tommy in December 2011 and although my husband was initially sceptical, he soon agreed that this outing was worth every penny and more. Tommy's knowledge is incredible, but what makes the day even more special is his infectious love for the environment and the fantastic way he shares his knowledge, including every single member of the group.

we realy enjoyed our trip in to the dessert with Tommy , we were well looked after on a highly engaging tour where we saw the "little five " and have some great pictures to take away .
The dessert is very beautiful but unforgiving, Tommy has an in depth knowledge of the fauna , flora and also the history , such as the terribly sad tale of the horses graveyard .
there is water fruit jucies and light snacs included in the half day trip

we met a scorpion ,a sidewinder , chameleons , skinks ,a shovel nosed lizard ,a gecko ,spiders beetles and birds ...and it was a bit like being on an episode of "Africa with David Attenborough" or the "Deadly 60" ...highly recommended

When in Swakopmund this "Living Desert Tour" in a 4x4, with Tommy as your guide, is an absolute must, to witness what actually lives in the desert sand dunes. Lizards, sidewinder snakes, desert chameleons, skinks, beetles - Tommy will find them in their natrual habitat and show them to you. Without Tommy, you wouldn't know that they existed. Very highly recommended.

This is the mantra from Tommy whenever he has just finished explained something about one of the small creatures in the Namib desert.

I have rated this as an 8/10 in my trip report, but I am going to override myself and give it a 9/10, or round it of to a 5. Everything said about this tour is spot on. Tommy is absolutely passionate about what he does and about the desert. This tour is about the small animals that live and survive in the oldest desert in the world. We learned a lot on this trip and we are very glad that we did it. Even the teenage girl that obviously was on this against her will and showed it, later started showing interest and finally was fully interested in what Tommy had to say. Just do this one!

Living Desert Tours is a must do when in Swakopmund.Tommy personally conducts the tour and he is a very knowledgeable bloke about the small five of the sand dunes.Tommy will take you on an unforgettable 4x4 adventure through the dunes outside Swakopmund. What Tommy does not know will amaze you his wit and humour are free.

You will be amazed at what actually lives in the desert.

Tommy is a charater in himself but knows where to find the small 5 so that you experience from Africa is complete. You can climb a sand dune and Tommy will take you for a dune ride as well and he even provides porta loos if you do not wish to use desert loo.

Highly recommended and so reasonable priced.
