After arriving late at night at the riad we were made very welcome with food and drinks offered. The riad is situated 2mins walk from the port and right in the centre of all the life. The decorative features of the riad are exquisite and very suited to the time period of this area. The room was very spacious including the bathroom and shower. The bed was larger than most hotel double beds and comfortable. The roof terrace was also beautiful with views of the surrounding medina. The staff here were very attentive and helpful with recommendations and travel arrangements. If you're planning a trip to Essaouira I recommend that you check this Riad out!

We stayed at the Maison du Sud for 11 nights and could not have wished for a better 'home from home'. Located at one of the medina's main thoroughfares, it is a stone throw away from both the port and the beach. The riad consists of two houses merged into one and oozes charm and authenticity. The rooms we have seen were all spacious and some of them had sofas which is great if you are staying for a longer period of time. There is plenty of extra seating area available on the ground floor and roof garden. Cafés and restaurants (we can recommend La Tolerance, Dar Baba, Beldy, Les Deux Frères, Le Découvert) are a plenty within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The staff are attentive and helpful, especially the two chaps at reception.
We just could not fault our stay but can imagine that the rooms at the front can be a bit more noisy but then we would not go anywhere without our ear plugs! We would not want to swap the advantages of being in the beating heart of the medina in a beautiful riad for a stay at a tourist hotel located outside.

Residence Maison du Sud is a lovely little riad right in the centre of Essaouira. The riad has an abundance of Moroccan charm, with a handful of rooms surrounding two beautiful courtyards. There is also a lovely roof terrace. The riad has a restaurant and the food is good and cheap. They serve to non-residents so feel comfortable to go in, eat and look around and see just where you could/should have stayed while in Essaouira. The staff are really helpful and will give great recommendations for a hammam and massage or excursions. They will make all the arrangements necessary too.

This riad is right in the middle of Essaouira between the souks, medina, mellah, Skala de la Ville (fort) and Place Mouloy Hassan (central square at the port). Everything is less than a 5 minutes walk - really! Great places to eat, buy your Moroccan goodies and cash machines are aslo literally all around you. The beach is probably 10-15 minutes walk.

Please be aware that you are right in the centre of Morocca and therefore the town contains many mosques. The lively nightlife in Essaouira and the 'calls to prayer' during the 'night' can be disturbing, but remeber that they are amongst the attractions that drew you to Morocco.

A top tip, on arrival in Essaouira at the Supratours bus station or the car park, let someone take your bag to the riad. It is only 10-15 dirhams (at your discretion, which amounts to about £1) but the riad can be tricky to spot on first searching.

Enjoy your stay!

Wow - this is a most beautiful riad. Staff were professional, welcoming and caring. The location couldn't be better for the souqs and the port, but it is very close to a mosque if you are not a fan of the night time call to prayer. The food was lovely and the Berber tent on the terrace such fun. I would have no hesitation to return.

A beautiful riad with real character and charm. The room was big, although not a lot of natural light, this wasn't really a problem though. The room looked onto the main street which made it a great location although a little noisy at night. The staff were helpful and were able to arrange someone to help me with my bags to the bus station. I would highly recommend la Maison du Sud.
