We stayed in this riad for 2 nights and we absolutely loved the architecture and the room decoration/design. The riad is very quite and peaceful. The breakfast is served on the rooftop and this was a great experience as the view on Essaouira is amazing. Located in the heart of Essaouira, you can are really central. We had room "Leila" and it was a really good one. I would highly recommend this riad.

We booked into Riad al Zahia for 5 nights on family recommendation and we were not disappointed. The ensuite room was large, airy, clean and comfortable. A welcoming warm fire had been lit for our arrival (it was December!) and olives and wine were produced on the rooftop terrace so we could relax and look at the stars. Lovely owners, friendly staff, good breakfast and superb location. We will return! Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are nearer to the lovely roof top terrace. Suites can cater for 3/4 guests. There is also an apartment (more room).

After reading many glowing reviews I decide to book this riad, I did and received a confirmation from booking.com ( payment to be paid on arrival ) . Not long after my confirmation I received emails requesting 50% of me fee to be paid to confirm my booking. these emails were not noticed and continued with another 2 emails 3 days later requesting my 50% payment to confirm my booking. Something just didn't feel right about it so I decided to ring the hotel direct , here I find that there had been a mistake been made via the booking.com internet booking system and somehow another family booked the same room seconds/minutes earlier than my booking and that they had to honour that booking that they received 1st. The best they could do for me and my family ( 2 boys aged 12 and 10) was to give us 2 rooms ( 1 on the 1st floor the other on the 2nd floor ) for the same price or bring forward my booking a day so they could fit us into the other family room or choice number 3 2 nights wither at their alternative family room and another night with their neighbour road. I replied that I would check online and get back to them which I did .....but the more I thought about it the more angry I became. My gut feeling was that they did receive a booking for the same room for a longer period of stay and went with that over our booking which was confirmed via booking.com.......I rang Booking.com to complain and they were fantastic !! I expressed my disapointment and they followed it up while I waited and were willing to force the Riad owners to find an appropriate replacement. in which I declined the offer. Again they (owners) claimed there was another booking made moments before mine and were at a loss why it allowed my booking to be received ..........If this was the case why did I get multiple emails (one 3 days after the booking was made) requesting 50% payment fee outside the terms of my agreement with Booking.com? instead of receiving an apology for the booking mix up.
I did receive an offer after my phone call to booking.com that they have arranged another riad but I do not want to be in an environment where it could be "uncomfortable" if you get my drift.
This may be the best Riad in Morocco as other tripadvisors have stated but I cannot and will not endorse an establishment that treats me this way. I felt I was obligated to share my experience with others here. And will look forward to reading if the owners try and make an attempt to apologise here.

Very welcoming and engaging people. A tastefully decorated Riad in a great location (a quiet laneway) with very comfortable rooms and a lovely traditional evening meal. A wholesome breakfast on the roof top with a small view of the Atlantic. A high recommendation for this guest house. Excellent value.

I would definitely recommend this riad. It had friendly and helpful staff, a lovely roof terrace where great breakfasts were served. All in all a lovely riad located in the centre of the medina, 100yds from the ramparts. Superb location.

Room Tip: its a long way to the third floor to your bedroom so book one on the first floor if you have trouble with stairs.
