I can't say enough nice things about this place. We arrived here after another place (Riad Nakhla) misplaced our reservation, treated us rudely, and then booked us into a place with which we were very dissatisfied. Fed up with how we'd been treated at our initial riad, we went in search of somewhere else and happened upon Hotel Emeraude.

The place is fantastic. The staff were exceedingly helpful and accommodating. The location is perfect. If you are coming or going on a Supratours bus, you are only a few minutes' walk from the drop off point. It is located close to a gate into the medina, so relative to many other hotels, it is actually quite easy to find. If you want to be surrounded by tourist shops and restaurants, this is not exactly the place for you, but we found the atmosphere much nicer than in the part of the city clogged with touts and aggressive shopkeepers. The rooms are not large but are very tastefully decorated. Someone in a review from several years back described the rooms and bathrooms as somewhat tired and in poor condition. I think there must have been a renovation since then since the bathroom was ultra-modern and absolutely spotless. Indeed, the entire place was spotless and well kept. After our initial problems with accommodation in Essaouira, this hotel felt like it was heaven sent.

As for value, our best comparison is the riad we stayed in our first night in Essaouira for Dh 250. Emeraude Hotel was a little less than twice as expensive (we paid Dh 450), but many, many times nicer.

This little hotel definately has pros and cons. The rooms are tiny but clean, modern and nicely decorated. Not too moroccan in decor, but modern and thoughtful. There is a lovely terrace for breakfast and taking in the sun (I can imagine, it was cold and wet when we were there). However, the cons of this place really come out when it is cold and wet (like we had). The rooms are too small to be able to spend any time in - they fit a double bed, a side table and small cupboard, and then there is only room to put your bags down and just move around. The terrace is not protected from Essaouiras strong winds which it is so famous for - so only really great in summer, and there is not real salon to sit in to read a book or enjoy some tea. It is a great place if you just want somewhere to sleep at night and be out all day - it is reasonably priced, comfortable in a basic sense and clean, but that is about it. Good for the budget minded traveller who would prefer something newly refurbished in the heart of the medina.

A good small hotel within the walls.
We were one night (5th March) for 42euros. We were in the last floor (I think that it was the third floor).
The room was clean and the toilet was very good
Nice terrace, friendly service

They knew somebody who works in the Cooperative and we bought them a litre Huile d'Argan (oil) for 12euros.

After the disappointment of our accomodation in Marrakech this charming little hotel was just what the doctor ordered. Located against the rampart walls it´s easy to locate with a half decent town plan. The whole riad has a nautical feel befitting the town´s Atlantic coast location. The mixture of white, blue, and yellow as interior decor gives the place a very cheery look. The rooms are fairly small (cosy) but very clean. We stayed 2 nights including New Year´s Eve. We paid 45€ per night for a double with breakfast (served on the roof terrace). The only slight criticisms are that the electricity seemed to be switched off for a few hours during the day and that more noisy guests (Americans) can be heard easily. But these were minor irritations. All round, for a low budget short stay in the pretty town of Essaouira, this hotel is almost ideal.
