“Beach”
Reviewed August 23, 2014

Great big beach with fierce wind and sand whipped to pin points into the backs of the legs! Wind keeps the heat at bay. Camel and horse riding at the far end - a great treat to ride alongside the glittering ocean. Great place for watersports.

“Windswept but beautiful!”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

We only managed to visit the beach on 2 out of our 6 days because of the high winds, but when the winds died down it was a great place to spend the day. Although it's not really a sunbathing type beach, its great for walking and taking in the sights, and the water is shallow where it meets the beach so good for paddling and for kids. We took an hour camel ride for 150 dirham each, which felt a bit expensive but seemed to be a standard price. Just along the beach and back again rather than anything more adventurous, but still a fun way to see the area and have a different experience. The camels were well behaved and our guide polite and friendly!

“Space for everyone and bargain sunbeds”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

We had two experiences of this beach. During Ramadan is was completely deserted and we could not believe such a great beach was so empty. The following week it came to life and was quite busy during the afternoons. However this beach is huge and you will always find plenty of space whether you want to just relax or take part in activities. Surfing and kitesurfing are at the far end meaning they do not interfere with those who want to swim. Also camel riding is a little further. Compared to Europe sunbeds are an absolute bargain 25 MAD per day if you go and see Aziz by the flags and the surf hire place. I do not understand why some reviewers have commented on lack of beach culture. There are nice bars and cafés along the beach which are always busy and serve alcohol if you want it. The beach is kept spotlessly clean by a group of litter pickers and there's the odd entertainment from wandering acrobats and musicians. Personally I'd go for Essaouria over fighting for a place for my towel in the south of France or paying 20 EUR for a sunbed in the Algarve!!

“Sea, sun, sand and a nice cooling wind.”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

Just spent a very nice two days and nights in Essasouira. Made a nice change from Marrakech where we will be returning tomorrow. The beach was great. Could not agree with the previous reviewer who stated there was no beach culture here. We visited mid August and there were plenty of people enjoying the beach. To my surprise there was indeed a very friendly atmosphere on the beach, especially the section towards the port. There were many people enjoying the beach here, locals and tourists. Some playing football, others in the sea, and many soaking up the rays on the sands. We hired out sun loungers for 4 of us all day for a total of £8 which included a canopy for shade which was erected for us. Me and my son started to kick a ball around and were joined by 3 friendly local youngsters for a while. Can't find any negatives really apart from the couple of times we were approached by someone selling sun glasses but they moved on immediately we said we were not interested. Nothing like being pestered in Marrakech. Have to say me and my family really enjoyed a day on the beach here and would not hesitate in recommending it to others whether they be family or couples. Will try and load some photos soon.

“As expected...”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

If you are planning beach holidays do not come to Essaouira. As in other Muslim countries there is no beach culture developed therefore the beach here seems to be quite neglected.
However if you consider kite-surfing there is no better place.
