Owner description: These ramparts provide a glimpse into how this old seaport village was fortified against invasion.

We were recommended the ramparts by other guests at our hotel. At 10 dirhams each it was great little find.

Check out the cannons and play a game of guess the age. A great view of the fishing harbour and town from the roof.

Only a short visit required but great value. Pop in after a visit to the harbour.

When I went to Essaouira, I didn't realize how cold it was! The town looks like an old santorini (and smells like fish) But you will get the freshest seafood here! Be careful, people will chase you down to eat at their spot! Beautiful to walk around and get
lost in the winding streets.

You get a great feeling for the city as a protected coastal port when you visit the ramparts and see how the city and its walls are designed to defend the city. At sunset you get a beautiful view too.

There is not massive amount to do in Essaouira but there are a few things you must do of which this is one. We came across it by chance and were blown away by the wonderful view of the Atlantic and this was another great photo opportunity. As with the whole of this area the wind is constantly blowing through the ramparts but this just adds to the experience.

No visit to Essaouira is complete without watching the orange sunset from the ramparts. Definetly one for romantics and lovers. The ramparts area is closed to the public at night.
